Charlie Methven

Last Saturday he was down at Argyle along with John Macevoy and one other. Obviously lots of rumours that he has a group together to take over Argyle with him already having already gone over things like the new academy being constructed. My question is what can we expect if he takes over and is it a good or bad move. Just wishing to know your opinions Good or Bad
Concerning replies @ibahjanner ? 😂

He has one of the most brilliant minds in the modern football landscape and his true potential at Sunderland was never achieved because the supporters never warmed up to him. This comes out if you watch the STID episodes where he makes the bold decisions on personnel.

It’s when he changed overnight.

He actually started off posting eloquent sentences/paragraphs discussing Charlie & SD, a little bit of inside info early in too. Then when a few joked he probably was Charlie, he started with that new persona overnight. His excuse was his keyboard

Absolutely no idea if it was Charlie himself, but it was likely someone connected with him/the club at the time or if not, the biggest wum the board has had. To keep that up for that long.

His arrival and disappearance certainly tied in with Charlie mind
Of course it wasn't actually Charlie, think a few genuinely think it was as well

I think he’s alright.

Everyone goes on likes he’s some charleton looking for a quick buck, but he’s been involved with 3 football clubs and now this would be a 4th?

So he’s obviously a football man. He’s not buying distressed window cleaning businesses.

He was part of a group that took over us at our lowest ebb, the club stabilised at a dreadful level of football, took a harsh austerity lesson, but ultimately emerged far, far stronger for it.

I think if it had not been for Methevin we’d have a) sank worse than we actually did, recognising relegation to league one happened under Short and b) we wouldn’t be as strong now if it weren’t for him.

In 2005 I was arguing with SMBers about Sir Bob Murrays legacy. I’m sure time won’t heal as much as it did a local businessman who did so much for the city and the football club for so long as Sir Bob did, but regardless I would expect a softening of attitudes in time.

Just because he's been involved in football clubs doesn't make him a "football man".

By that logic, Russell Brand is a leading feminist.

Aware it sounds far fetched, however he did have history of doing it previously. To be honest I’ve no idea either way.

I mean, Beale would also never set up a wum twitter account either would he

It was the mad world of Sunderland for a while ;)

His brilliant mind knew how to strip the club to its barebones. It didn’t stretch to making a success of it. Supporters would have warmed, had he shed the superiority complex.

Selling Josh Maja and not giving him the contract offer he was looking for and signing Will Grigg for more than we would ever have had to pay Maja to keep him, think that was the one decision that made a massive difference in Promotion / Staying Down.
"Piss taking stops here" then goes on (well his mate Donald) to totally get the piss took from Wigan.

Hi Charlie 😂
They arrived at our lowest ebb and talked about getting people back on board to reignite the fans who'd just witnessed a double relegation. Methven in particular was very bullish and cocksure of himself but was given the benefit of the doubt. We lost in the play offs, they tried to flog the club to some penniless chancer only for it to fall through when he couldn't provide proof of funds (because he had none) and it all started to unravel - it became very apparent the plan was simply to just slash running costs, get promoted and flip for a profit. When people started to question that he doubled down and became increasingly more insulting and offensive towards fans - memorably the minutes from a meeting with fans groups had to be pulled (but later leaked) because he called fans, amongst other things, 'unbelievably uneducated', said we were known in the game as the 'Sunderland disease' and compared us with 'drunk girls running around crying with mascara running down their faces'.

Pleasant chap. Publicly he took more of a backseat after that but was still privately involved behind the scenes whilst doing the podcast network/LinkedIn slagging fans off and taking credit for things that didn't happen. Also apparently interviewed Roy Keane for the managers job which would have been the most 'would have loved to have been a fly on the wall' thing ever.
Other than that he was sound 😂😂

I dont know him personally so this fiat to his prowess is based on his time as a minority owner of SAFC and nowt to do with his character away from the club. He literally is the worst kind of idiot! a buffoon with the ego of a planet and a skip load of entitlement and i would rather have an oxo cube as a board member! If you watch STID and you dont come back and think he is an ejaculate with a watery rancid disposition ,well Hes found the right home.
