Race For Europe

Lost and only Fulham won not bad in the end. Got to beat Wolves and then United probably already secured CL football by the time we play them

It might. But what does that mean, our league form isn’t good enough to qualify for Europe next year?

There hasn’t never been a team relegated from the Premier League whilst competing in a European competition.

So what are we aiming for. As high up in the league as possible without qualifying for a European competition? Does it matter if you finish 10th or 15th? You get the same reward. Nowt. Or a bit of prize money that won’t benefit us as supporters
As I said. I’d be up for it. But there’s too many clowns in the fan base that would kick off if we came 14th next season as a result. Also, Ipswich played in the UEFA Cup in 2002 and went down in the same season.

The best players want to play Champions League football. After our blistering start with a half competent manager/coach we could have been knocking on the Champions League door and we could have gone from strength to strength. Unfortunately we have the one-dimensional professor.
Got a feeling you have been getting you PR tips from Albo mate.🤣

Aye, you’re right. Although they played only 6 matches in Europe that season, the latest being 4th October, so I’d say their problems ran deeper than playing a few more matches.

I don’t think we’d get relegated but it would probably result in a bottom half finish. Tottenham also may be the first team to play CL and go down.

It’s mad that we’ve lost the last 2 with conceding 9 goals, and we’re still in with a shout of a European place.

No one seems to be taking that 6th or 7th spot with good form.

It’s all down to the Wolves game. Win that, which will be far from easy, and well will still be in the conversation. It’s hard to know how many points we will need but it seems likely we’d have to win 2 of the final 3 of Everton United and Chelsea. Tough not not impossible.

I’d be ok as a trade off for that. We could end up finishing bottom half this year. Essentially finishing bottom half or top half is the same unless it results in Europe or relegation.

I think there’s a chance we could revert back to three promoted teams getting relegated next year. I’d be surprised if any finished above us. I’m sure everybody said that about us.

Beat Wolves & we can go into Man Utd & look at it as a one off match. Depending on how that goes & what other results do, do the same with everyone. & so on

Looking at the fixtures I think we won't catch Brighton given their 4 point advantage. Realistically we need to win against wolves, everton and chelsea, that would leave us on 55 points. The only teams I see beating that total are Brighton and then possibly Bournemouth & Fulham.

Brentford have 2 tricky away games and not won in their last 5 games. Chelsea play liverpool away, two relegation battling teams, and obviously would get nothing against us if we beat them. Likewise with Everton, who also play City and relegation battling Spurs away last game. So yeah we 'just' need to win 3 more games, how hard can it be?.....

Brighton Away Newcastle
Home Wolves
Away Leeds
Home Man United

Bournemouth Home Crystal Palace
Away Fulham
Home Man City
Away Nottingham Forest

Chelsea Home Nottingham Forest
Away Liverpool
Home Tottenham
Away Sunderland

Brentford Home West Ham
Away Man City
Home Crystal Palace
Away Liverpool

Fulham Away Arsenal
Home Bournemouth
Away Wolves
Home Newcastle

Everton Home Man City

Sunderland Away Wolves
Home Man United

At least he is even more clueless than RLB

Aye, the manager who got us promoted and then safe by March. When he does move on I’ll wish him well.

Regardless of what happens in the future, he’s done more than enough already.

“Clueless” ffs

9th or 10th wont be enough

If Villa finish in 5th and win the Europa while City win the FA Cup then 9th will get Conference League by my count.

4 Champions League places through League position
1 Champions through Europa winner (Villa if they finish 5th and win Europa)
1 Champions League place for coefficient (6th)
7th Europa League from league position
8th Europa League from FA Cup (if City win the cup)
9th Conference League from League Cup

Not exactly implausible for the favourites of both competitions to win and Villa to finish where they are.

Technically Palace could finish 10th and win the Conference League and get into the Europa but that will have nothing to do with league position and there's no scenario where we can get into 10th and get into Europe as I understand it.

Did i not read that we dont get an extra Europa place if Villa win it so the league position place is rescinded or something?

This explains it (bottom section)

If they finish top 4 the league spot is rescinded, but the 5th place is an additional spot, that isn't rescinded if they qualify through winning it.

thats not what that article says mind. They finish 5th (EL league spot- rescinded) and the EPS CL spot goes to 6th. Conference spot 7th, So FA Cup spot likely goes to 8th. So 8th maximum.
