Durham v Lancashire [H] C.C. 24/4/26

outstanding result and performance.

Gay and Bedingham rightly get the plaudits but I don't get the criticism of McKinney. For ages the criticism of him was he was too attacking to open, but he batted time nicely, ate up most of the morning session which is exactly what an opener should have done in those circumstances.
Agreed, when we were walking out at the end I said that the 2 openers would not get any credit for batting through the first hour, 59 mins for the pedants, OK Lees did leave 1 too many but they, in my opinion set up the day.

I've advocated for ages that England need this approach. If your openers are still there at 12.30 on the first day of a test match, regardless of runs scored, they've done their job. Ball no longer shiny, all the bowlers have had a spell, so the rest of the batters can have a go at a ball that is getting softer.

Looking forward to the headlines

What a Gay day
Mebees in the 70s.....no chance tomorrow unfortunately
Haway lads see it home. Watching and listening on from Uzbekistan 🇺🇿. These 2 have been cool as a cucumber. Potts & Parky’s 78 last wicket partnership looking ever so special now!
Tbf Potts & Parkys partnership ( as did Coughlins innings ) showed that with the right application runs could be scored. I always thought the target was gettable provided the batsmen just chipped away at it. In doing so Bedders and Gay ultimately broke the Lanc spirit and the result was never really in doubt once we reached 200
It really does....the lads should gain massive confidence from this performance and result on the back of the annihilation of Gloucestershire.
Well done lads. A perfect cricket match!
The two teams touted as the best in the division and Durham come out ahead! Bodes well.

That was a proper County Championship slug-fest, mind - no matter what the division. Fair play to Lancs. Hope we're both celebrating promotion when we go there in September. And that the Yorkies are on their way down.

The BBC commentator (not Marty) made this very point.

If they had not lost a day to the storm damage the other week , we would be played 3 won 3.

I get the feeling that this is going to be a good season.

Saturday afternoon I thought we were on course for a big hiding as it looked like Lancs would end up with a lead in excess of 200 runs. The lead ended up being 75 runs which was manageable. On Sunday morning it looked like we could bowl them out cheaply and have the game wrapped up by the end of the day. That was blown out the water by Coggers and Jones. Wasn’t optimistic this morning and was hoping we might scrape a draw. Very pleased to be proven wrong yet again.

Mental to think we don’t have a home game now until June 🤦‍♂️

Indeed, yet people were totally wetting their pants earlier in the game about how bad the team is, the leadership, the coaching, etc…

Campbell admitted they were bad in the field in the first innings and gifted Lancashire 100+ runs.

Theres still an issue with lack of depth to our bowling, especially now Conners has a serious abdominal injury.

Campbell wanting to rotate his bowlers but with Roach and Conners injured, it looks like Raine and Potts are going to still do the heavy lifting.

We could end up in a situation like last year when Ball and Blatherwick were signed on a short term loan.

They were justifiably expressing concern that the frailties exposed last year,we were relegated, were again exposing themselves.Lees is a far from inspiring captain,no batsmen nor bowlers have come through the Academy under the present tenure. Yesterday was a splendid victory, thoroughly enjoyable, but on the backs of four class players i.e. Gay,Bedingham,Potts and Raine. Any of those 4 could suffer injury,3 could well be called up to play for their country.
I'm disappointed that you chose to use such guttural popularity terminology "wetting their pants". No place in this forum for those expressions.
There is neither depth to the bowling or batting. Hopefully Benkenstein will develop some batsmen.
No offense intended but I feel it necessary to respond to your cynical criticism.
