Preparing for next season

Assuming we have little to play for now apart from aiming to finish as high as we can what do we need to change in the summer to firstly avoid second season syndrome and secondly to kick on.

The obvious is we have got to be more prolific. Brobbey is a brilliant player and with a more creative midfielder and goal scoring wingers up with him his style could see us getting more goals but I’m not convinced he will be getting 20+ in the prem just from the way he plays and how deep he drops.

Some tough calls re wingers as we have got a shed load but likely none that are going to get into double figures.

The combination of the above means regardless of how strong defensively we are we still struggle to go much better as we just don’t have the goals.

I think we need another striker to rotate with Brobbey as there are games where a striker playing on the shoulder will be more effective. Watkins showed us that against Villa last week.

I’d give our wingers a chance early in preseason to see what they can do as Nilsson and Ta Bi have come highly rated and Adringa has done well on loan so could come back a different player but gut feeling is we need to strengthen on the wings.

Then I think we need Le Fee and or another to play more central.

Finally I’m not completely convinced on Aldrete. He can look great but also can be a bit of a liability and it’s become more noticeable since we lost our defensive solidity how often that occurs. Don’t get me wrong he was great for where we were this season and should be part of the squad but if we can bring in competition in the summer I’d also see that as a way for us to kick on.
 

Most strikers will not hit 20+ goals in the league tbf. Issue is aside from penalties for le fee and talbi, our general contributions arent good enough

IMO we don’t have a premier league quality winger at the club or at least they haven’t shown it yet. That needs sorting as we carry very little goal threat.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see wholesale changes in the forward department like.

They focussed much of the recruitment in the summer on getting solid defenders. Wouldn’t be surprised, as you say, for there to be more a focus on attacking players this summer.
 
We've been prolific, clinical, ruthless etc in the amount weve scored against created.

Id suggest we get better at being defensive, perhaps a rapid winger to counter, formulate and further gain cohesion in how to best use Brobbey perhaps.

Plan how best to reach our young players potential.

Angulo looks to have a lot of promise, right attitude, bit of skill and looks to get stuck in. Ta bi on the other hand looks like a fan that won a competition to be allowed to play.

We have to be looking for a right winger, maybe even two. Angulo looks to be better of the left, as is Talbi (Talbi really needs to work on his left foot mind). RLB obviously likes Le Fee there too.

I'm more convinced than ever we need someone in the Rashford who pace demon and is right on the shoulder of the last man from the wide areas and is looking to get into the box. We offer very little threat to spring the offside trap and that is being very exposed with the recent high pressing we have been undone by. The new offside rule means that'll be even more of an area for us to target.

I imagine we'll be looking for a centre forward or two as well. You sense RLB doesn't really have much faith in Mayenda or Isidor. He may want a target man alternative to Brobbey and/or someone who can play alongside him running behind.

We also need a left back, another LCB and CDM.

I make it at least five players but there would be at least two moving on (Cirkin and likely Isidor). The club should be trying to get loans out for Mundle, Ta bi.

My big concern is game time for Rigg if we get a proper right winger. I think if you play Rigg as a change option on the right that is fine but then you need a packer attacking winger on the left instead of ELF (Angulo perhaps)

Utter tosh to judge Jocelyn on a grand total of roughly 40 minutes football
 
I wish we could just be pragmatic here and not be guided by our hearts. Rigg whilst home grown will never be good or strong enough in that wide position. He’s not strong enough physically or have the pace to help out defensively. Onien, Neil, Ba, Cirkin, Isidor, Mayenda and all the lads on loan need to be off the wage bill.
we need a statement like Xhaka signing up front. Go to Tottenham and sign their left back.
Hang onto the players we’ve brought in. They’ve gained vital PL experience and will be even better nxt year.

For all we had a great summer of recruitment last season, 50 million on Adingra and Diarra doesn’t seem like money well spent (at the moment - they may improve with time).
 
Sounds like we’ll need to replace Cirkin, Geertruida and Traore just to stand still. A couple more attacking options wouldn’t go amiss either.

Not convinced we have nothing to play for by the way. 8th place and a potential Conference League spot is still well within reach. (Admittedly I have little confidence we’ll make it after yesterday).

Hume Mukiele Ballard Alderete Reinaldo

Sadiki Xhaka Le Fee

Brobbey XX

And that could see a 20 goal season for someone and we can blow most of our budget on a really top draw CF and the rest goes towards depth

Id love to see Isidor and Mayenda given chances in a set up like this alongside brobbey

Speaking to somebody high up from the club he said that ta bi is the one they hold the most hope for. I found it strange but he said the coaches think he has the highest potential

We need to be right at the top of our game again with recruitment. Really like Ballard and Aldrete . But we need competition so could do with 2 new central defender s. Xhaka cover is vital as when he is not in the team we look lost. I personally think Talbi is going to be top draw. Would love to see someone like Amad on the wing. Probably could do with a striker too. So 2 Centre half's a Centre midfielder , a top top winger and striker is on my christmas list.
