Thoughts on last night

It's the pass out to the middle that pisses me off, we either lose it there or lose it when the man in the middle gets it and passes wide. Either the keeper gives it wide or play it long ffs. Last night reminded me of how Southampton last season pissed about, we weren't doing it first half of the season too, bewildering.
That pass out to the middle has been one of our big plusses this season , it takes the two attacking pressers out of the equation. But when the oppo's are targeting the wide center backs , the receiver in the middle has to turn and look forward for a different option. Sadiki in particular last night , blind passed it wide in the first half and played straight into Forest hands tactically.

We made it so easy for them but Le Bris continues to play people out of position when no need. 3 again last night then ripped us apart down the flanks.

But even Xhaka look miles off it teams next season will either press us like that or let us have more of the ball as we do so little with it.

Their manager played a blinder by going 3 at the back and pushing their wing-backs up and flooding our midfield and pressed us high. We couldn't cope and didn't adapt and change our system and got smashed...piss poor...
Yeah it was low risk, high reward for them. Due to injuries we've got central midfielders on the wing

They looked like they played an old fashioned 442 and it worked. I hate all this roll the ball out from the goalie to fullbacks and pass it across the back bollocks. We did it to ourselves yesterday with stupidity at the back.
But, we wouldn’t have beaten Forest no matter how we were set up as the desire to win wasn’t there.

My son is an u-14s keeper, and he has it drilled into him time and time again, dont play out on the floor threw the middle, out wide first.

Because whenever he does, the midfield is missing and the ball is given away far too easily.

They’re a good side. No idea how they’re so low down the table. I’d take most of their players tbh
Playing and doing well in European games, could possibly have sidetracked them & shifted their focus away, from the bread & butter, league games.

They had great energy & intensity last night, and we just didn't cope with their aggressive high press.

They'll keep picking up enough points, to avoid the drop this season.

doesn’t feel like it now but it might be good thing, a lesson that we can’t stand still and we are nowhere near the finished article yet. We need more quality and definitely a better mindset in certain games.
I feel the same.

Hopefully like the Bolton away thumping in league 1, in that the awful defeat is used as a lessons learnt and never again can that be allowed to happen.

I’m not advocating RLB is peddled as I’ve posted elsewhere, but the lessons learnt need to be taken onboard from everyone associated and never again can we slump at home like that.

Got beat by a better team, let’s be honest. They battered us at their place and we got lucky and the rub of the green. Suspect next season will have a very different outlook. Should build a statue for RLB outside the ground with the job he’s done. Great to see unwavering support though.

A mix of them playing well and us being absolute chod.

It’s been mentioned by others, but a few players don’t look anywhere near match fit to me and were all over the shop.

Still think RLB will be more than safe (and rightly so) but I can’t see people being too happy if we have many more results like that, especially at home.

Next season is not going to be the same as this season.

We need a strong defensive coach bringing in. Didn't we lose / let go our previous coach in January ans since then been very poor defensively.

We could easily struggle next season.

Last night was unacceptable even if we are a newly promoted side, even if forest are fighting for their lives.

Ultimately, the blame lies with the manager and this sort of performance isn't a one or nor the first time it's happened.

Some fundamental things could do with a change - for example coaching with defence and final third attacking play.

Discussion in the car heading home was more about we expected a tanking or two earlier on in the season and that was before the season had started.

The fact that our biggest loss for ages happened at the end of April was the only crumb of comfort we could find.

Shit happens , we move on.
Exactly mate.. walking out of Wembley nearly a year ago I thought this season would be full of them results… it’s took until April for it to happen so happy days, we’ve been spoilt

Badly need to replace our wingers in the summer as they don’t do nowt really attacking wise, then you look at forests 2 wingers who were absolutely ruthless and tore us to bits

During the game I was furious with the whole thing. But in reality at the final whistle. Im not that angry.

Every team has these results from time to time. We made a few mistakes and were punished for every one. On another day we lose that by one or two and its never mentioned again.

Our season, and that squad, and no individual player should be defined by that game.

Not impressed with booing the squad or leaving early mind. I thought we were better than that

Been multiple threads on leaving early and booing the players over the years , it’s part of football in general including us , it makes us no worse than any other fan base .
