The Morning After The Night Before

Well lads and lasses.
That was an absolute shocker. The first 10 mins I thought we were heading for a comfortable win but after Hume’s OG we just capitulated. Defending was as bad as I have seen it. This playing out from the back does my head in. We have been fortunate not to get caught out like last night more than we have. Just kick the bastard forward ffs !!!
The players looked jaded, tired, leggy, however you want to put it. Just looked like a hard season was catching up on them.
Europe probably now out of reach and to be honest I am pleased. Playing Europa or Conference every Thursday meaning we are playing virtually Thursday, Sunday most weeks would be an absolute killer for our squad. We don’t have the strength in depth for it yet. Lets focus on next season, making sure we establish ourselves as a strong Premier team then go again.
One positive from last night was the crowd in the second half. Those of us who stayed til the end really got behind the lads and the atmosphere, despite the score was superb.
A week to dust ourselves down and then we go again. STID 👍👍

Playing out from the back isn’t the problem really, it has its place and has contributed to a number of really good performances from us this season.

The problem is passing out from the back regardless of the situation and not mixing it up.

As for Europe it’s a problem I would have welcomed

Agree with the rest of the post though 👍🏻

I was expecting a hard game as they were unbeaten in their last 6 or something. Once their first went in, we capitulated. It was a massive wake up call for everyone at the club, and to be honest it’s been coming. We’ve had some absolutely fantastic moments since last May, but the last 2 games have been a stark reminder that this league is ruthless.

Not buying the tiredness really mind, we've played 3 games in about 6 weeks.

We were just all over the place and too open. We were complacent.
Agree 100%.
Plus Forest were very good, their winning of the ball and 2nd ball was better than ours and their right winger tormented us all night.
Best team won in my opinion.

We just weren’t up for it. Stupid mistakes and plenty of complacency cost us dearly. Last noght was bad, but this season has been good. Nowhere near relegation, sitting comfortably, ready to build and kick on.

They knew exactly how to target us. 9 goals in 2games - or 8 in 135 minutes - is absolutely f***ing shocking! Defence was terrible again last night.

Honestly thought we were getting through a season with no embarrassing results :(
Actually the Port Vale one was embarrassing too when you think about it.
Ah well. Let’s just forget about it and try and win the next game.

I love these posts. I agree it was shocking but what was shocking about it? What did you analyse from it? Which parts were shocking?
What do you think should’ve been different?

Like for me I look at our recent set piece defending and think fuck- we get exposed a lot by zonal marking.
The playing from the back is at times risky but we have played that way for 2 seasons. Do we scrap it on 2 games?
Has the coach picked the wrong team or formation?
Why does the keeper not come for crosses anymore is it him or is it coached or is it the opposition saying stop him coming after analysis and we can’t clear a high ball?

We can all say shocking, shite embarrassing etc but nice when it’s backed up

We’ve been incredible this season, seems the handbrake has been took off and defensively we are all over the shop, I agree about getting in to Europe this season we couldn’t handle two games a week with this squad, I had a feeling there would be a drop off when we got safe
Totally agree RLB has made little tweaks making us less structured and the evidence is there for all to see

The strong pragmatic structure serves us well at the minute and RLB is very good at that.

Never mind the talk of Europe and the next level his real test if he wants to be here longer term is can he tweak it effectively to give us more threat but not with the result of being a horror show defensively.

Last night was bleak, although it was how I thought the entire season would have gone in the weeks following Wembley. As it was a one off and it's May next week I'm actually not overly bothered.

Selfishly I can't afford European football anyway. ;)

It's been an amazing season really, although different to the recent football league seasons as we're not really chasing anything. Hopefully we can get some decent results from the last 4.

HTL, KTF etc.

Better to learn from these lessons safe towards the end of the season than at the start and going on a bad run. I'm sure we will adapt if teams start pressing us into mistakes. The goals from crosses and marking has to be sorted out asap
