Running Thread 2026

Quayside 5k yesterday was a belter. PB'd again with an 18:23 (18:36 chip time) and I've no idea how that happened, was not in the best shape for it with a dodgy knee over the last month or so. Mind, the field was that strong that I finished about 170th of 225 (guessing the numbers slightly) so was slogging it and still near th back of the A race

Would recommend it in August for those PB hunting for a 5k or 10k - providing the stupid 500m or so of XC is no longer part of the track.
Next up - Great north 10k I think, will no doubt have something else booked before then mind.

Snowdon24 next for me in July. Really wanting gnr 2027 as have never done it. Debating just buying the membership and sucking it up so I can tick it off. Id do it the 2 times it allows you as well.

Manchester 2027....... I think I might

Good luck - ultrasound is the equivalent of the magic sponge! I had a few injuries in my early running days eventually sorted with custom made orthotics. Have had two or three injuries in last two years - probably pushing an older body too hard - sorted by a good physio. Frustrating to be out of action and always temptation to try again too soon - I know I have had a few setbacks because of over eagerness.

Post race blues are definitely a thing arent they?

Yep. Had them for 16 years....all those miles finally caught up. Final marathon was Stockholm. Managed to come in 3rd in age group - 55-60..in 3,12. Downhill from there..just couldn't run outside without severe ankle pain.

Enjoy it while you can. You never know when time will catch up with you.

Well done.
Gets to a point where one has to put aside how fast one used to be and just concentrate on what one can do now. It has been a gradual process for me.
I haven't yet got to the point where I forget my watch - still compete with myself.

Anyone entering the London ballot for next year?
Gunna hoy my name in for the craic but as you can imagine the website is experiencing heavy traffic at the minute. Be booking up for the Athens Marathon in November today though, entries just opened and it's non ballot.

Nice!!

I've popped a ballot entry in for London - highly unlikely to get a spot like, sure I read its only 1.5% chance! Shy bairns and all that

Up the lines to Ryhope, along to Seaham and it just so happened I hit 10k outside the Lamp Room. Seemed like a natural stop point. I opted for the Scottish benedict and a large latte 😋 absolutely gorgeous morning for it! Ran a nice and steady 10/mi. Loving these Stinson 7, it's probably the best my knees have ever felt when running.

Got mine in now too, next to no chance like but fingers crossed.

After a bit of hassle got my spot booked for Athens, bit of a ripoff like non Greek runners have to purchase the premium package for £140. Looks like you get plenty of goodies and stuff for the money but would've rather just pay the £60 standard entry fee 😅

Not a fan of this double weekend plan but nonetheless I'll apply for another rejection email.
Off on our way down now for this year. Partner is running for pancreatic cancer.

Yeah, Ive seen a few posts about people not being happy about the 2 day plan. I can see both sides - on one hand its a prestigious event that everyone strives to do so keep it as it is, on the other, it gives another 50,000 a chance to get to do it!

Belated well done to everyone who ran Manchester last week, and good luck to anyone doing London today.

A year since I done my only marathon, Manchester, and have dropped off an awful lot since then but quite jealous of everyone who's been doing them and excited for them these last few weeks. Amazing experience.

Bit of time off for me at the moment, getting some jip in the right knee and the symptoms seem to line up with IT Band problems. Got some resistance bands to do some hip abductions with and just trying to do a bit stretching and try to strengthen the glutes, planning to get down the leisure centre during the week for a swim just to keep cardio up a bit.

Got 3 races between mid May and mid June so thankfully still got a couple weeks to get sorted.

Good luck to anyone doing london
Is he going under 2 hours here , absolutely amazing this
