Matchday Park and Stride

Parking outside St Anthony's School in Ashbrooke is good for night matches (can't do it for home games as it's no parking between 2-3pm). It's close to town and about 20-25 mins walk from the ground.
The streets around Thornhill School, (Otto Terrace, Beechwood Terrace etc) are similar iirc. Google reckons 30mins walk from SoL but you walk past a few pubs or could jump metty to University then walk.

As long as you come out avoiding Thornholme Rd/Durham Rd junction, which is usually very busy, you've got choices for getting away.

I usually park at the Uni so get in to town between 12.15-12.30 but the boy has a rearranged game up at Ryton on Saturday meaning I wont get to Sunderland until 2.15ish at a guess. Dont mind walking 20-30 mins but where the hell will be the best area to head to at that time for somewhere I can just drive into without faffing on / or parking in areas that look dodgy. Dont mind paying if there is something half decent to head to

Back in the day I used to work in The Esplanade. That Gorse Road car park was notorious for car theft, we would see it regularly. One day we had coppers staking it out with cameras from our windows and undercover cops hanging about nearby waiting to chase the bad lads. Great day at work!

I would head down Deptford. There's a small-ish number of paid bays on the bank but the restrictions on the single yellow lines are only in operation Monday to Friday and if you don't get parked on the bank there's plenty of room outside the Saltgrass. About 20-25 minute walk to the SOL.

Usually park at Sunniside on matchdays but it seems to be getting worse leaving the city heading towards Hendon/Ryhope/Seaham and then onto the A19.

Took me about 25 minutes to get to the Hendon grange after the match, then I had to queue to get onto the a19 up past the new houses near Ryhope.

Can you street park anywhere just beyond Mowbray Park? Or is it permit holders only. Ideally want to go back and not have my car missing vital parts too.

Any other suggestions that way on? Don’t mind paying for parking either.

I’d rather walk for 25 minutes than be stuck in traffic for that long .
I street park bottom of millfield ,near landsdowne .stay til end ,20 min walk ,up Hyl Rd onto a19
Resi parking on first bit but OK on streets past Oddies etc
