Tom Burwell - Interim CEO Podcast

This sounds familiar from Roker Report!

Let’s not all of a sudden pretend that there haven’t been really big tin-eared missteps on the journey to our current success. The ownership group, one of whom was part of Madrox, are not infallible.

I might have a Roker Report logo as my profile pic, but I don't speak on behalf of anyone but myself. That was just my take, having listened to it 😉

You should be brave and change your photo to the group you represent, my dear...

if we become more successful though these sorts of packasges wotn be aimed at local fans, they will be aimed at businesses or visiting fans want an experience
I was in the 76 yards as a 1 off for Spurs. In the lift there was 4 of us, 2 were a Spurs couple the thick end of 80 who can obviously afford a long trip up north and about £600 on tickets, perhaps a hotel stay? We have minimal people in this area who could afford similar.

But apparently we're building a fan base...

thats the reality of it though

40m revenue in the champioinship and the players and facilities you can afford with that...or 200m in our first year in the premier league and the players and facilities that can pay for

mags 320m revenue...

we are starting from a position way behind 17 other clubs in this league

if people want a successful team this is the reality

or we just become a burnley and flip flop between divisions...

what do fans acutally want?

people have been moaning on for years on here about accepting mediocrity..well heres the truth now, if you want to strive for a successful team, then the club itself has to change as a business

Again it is part and parcel of where we are at now - would not be the case in the championship.

Reality is if they look at it compared to the other prem teams, we need to increase our offering and in turn that is going to bring more corporates/businesses in to pay for these packages.

The mags will have more matchday revenue and that stack of theirs will be a great revenue generator too all year round. If the club wants to increase that side of things they have to offer people something that fans want to put their money into and feel is worth it.
At the minute the entry level corporate just doesn't match what the cost is especially when trying to increase prices too
May come to it the concessions get looked at as well

Of the 200m a lot of it will be the tv money and league placement this year then we get to sponsorships etc, so it'll be interesting what deals are made this summer for the new front of strip and arm patches as these can be massive earners so those will be key.

You can do both. Letting people downgrade seats is small change when you get £100M from Sky and it's £2.6M for every place you finish higher up the table.

It's not going to buy you a 20 goal a season striker. It would barely pay for one week of his wages.

The Mags are MILES ahead of us in terms of revenue and corporate tickets options. They've proven that there is plenty money in and around the area. They've also proven that there are plenty of people prepared to pay a chuck of money for 'corporate' tickets in the region... Youve just got to get the offer right. Couple next door to me pay something like £500 for two tickets to have a meal and drinks at Fenwick's pre and post match. They dont even have corporate on site at the grounds ffs and they are paying that kind of money. We could easily offer people in Founders for example a food offering in Sheepfolds pre match then exclusive access to Founders bar pre, during and post match. Would make the price worth paying. The new footbridge also opens up the opportunity to do something similar to this Fenwick's deal only a short distance away from ground.

See my reply above. Totally agree. Club needs to utilize the likes of Sheepfolds like Newcastle do The Stack, Fenwicks etc.

There is questions to ask around all of this though and nobody seems to have the answers.

What does other clubs do with corporates wanting to downgrade when they have a general admission waiting list?

If we had a long term view and around 10k waiting for a GA ticket with their kids, would people be happy if somebody paid £2,500 to buy corporate for a year and then get first dibs ahead of the waiting list who could have been on for 2 years?

I've already said i don't agree with their stance and do think an amnesty this summer to have allowed people to move and then draw a line in the sand could have worked. But there 100% needs to be clear guidelines going forward if the waiting list is to continue.

Rumour I heard at the weekend was that Bruce had been sacked because the commercial revenue was nowhere near where senior leadership wanted it, and they were unimpressed with our various sponsorship deals.

I think this interview (I’ve only watched the first bit so far) already singles exactly what the intent of the new CEO will be (I’m going to bet it ends up being this like full time - but even if not). To get every penny out of us all. Way of the modern game innit.

I can imagine that is true. It makes a massive difference. Hopkinson up the road has already brought in there training ground sponsorship and had another one of similar value to be announced I'm told. When the other guy didn't have the connections to grow that side of the business.

Yep to get folks spending you have to give them something they want to spend it on not trap them in lower end corporate and not let them out. As it stands, unless people are unaware of the club policy I'd be very wary of taking a founders etc package as its effectively offering you a seat in a pub pre and half time match days, and anyone can go in after the match if there's space, when there's far better places to go if folks just want to drink pre and post match

The stack is owned by the mags as well so all that profit flows back into the club for little to no effort.
Itll also make a shit ton during summer weekends and footy tournaments as a fanzone.

No idea on how much we get off hummel, been some good kits released but if the clubs making minimal amounts from the deal its a bad deal for the club, great for hummel and fanatics though no doubt.
The mags were stuck in a similar deal with castore making what are negligible amounts for what they were selling so got out of that and managed to get Adidas in on a much fatter deal

Not sure why you keep trotting out this ridiculous scenario? You could pay a £100 a match and get to 19 games cheaper than paying £2.5K in the 76 yards.

Four in the lift, but how many were in the actual restaurant part?
Were there many free tables or was it full?

The mags bought out their final year of the Castore deal as Adidas were offering them such a good deal.
Our Hummel / Fanatics deal is poor for a premier league club with a fan base our size. See my posts a few pages back about the Hummel deal.

Yeah, well that's all they are after apparently.
But why would they pay £100 a seat rather than do corporate and skip the line like you said. Make absolutely no sense.

Your scenario - £100 a ticket. £3,800 over 2 seasons for regular seating.

My scenario - £3,100 for 1 full season of hospitality and then 1 full season regulsr seating.

Its cheaper and a better overall package to do it that way. You're too busy frothing at the mouth to sit and actually look at the possible manipulations long term.

It's very encouraging that there a big push to improve the off field side of things but a the end of the day, Ghisolfi is still the most important person at the club for me (aside from KLD, RLB and Xhaka). You can have as many fancy sponsorships as you want but if your Director of Football is wasting £75m on the likes of Wesley Fofana or in our case, finding diamonds like Mukiele for £9.6m, it changes everything.
