SOL expansion

I could see why Leeds would want to increase both standard capacity and corporate hospitality. Leeds has a massive catchment area (one million plus) and is also a major financial/industrial region. Im sure they’d comfortably fill it.

Not so sure about Nottingham. The city is a similar size to Sunderland, but I expect it has a larger middle-class support who might be prepared to pay corporate prices.

Yes there might be a waiting list for executive boxes just now, but I think the current demand will evaporate if we don’t stay in the top-flight. The city needs further regeneration and to be able to attract better paid jobs.
But maximising the revenue from ticket price increases etc will contribute to us staying in the PL. The new financial rules SCR is critical with this and we voted for it. Interested to hear what Burwell says on that video as I've been unsure on why we voted for that

We first need to find out how it will actually cost to extend the stadium, then weigh up the risks of a potential relegation.

You have to remember we tend to lose around 20% of the gate after a relegation; I suspect corporate loss is higher.

SOL cost was £15M to £20M IIRC

North stand extension and associated development was around £7M, also IIRC.

As a finger in the air I'd estimate any Roker End extension at today's costs - including consourse and premium area - around £40M to 50M mark.

As there is no published scope this should be taken as a very rough estimate.
Vast majority of the sol funding came from the European union and the government regeneration grants plus a few bob from the sale of roker park.

There's no plans from the club to do any extension at the moment it's just wishful thinking from fans. The club just objected to the sheepfolds development incase it impacted the South stand extension. There's a buffer zone agreed with the council behind the South stand now so everything is OK if we do extend the ground.
Yes there are plans and they've been posted on here a few times.

Having watched that podcast with Tom Burwell I think any extension is going to be to the East stand and he specifically mentioned capacity going to 59k

For a corporate / concert POV the East Stand makes more sense.

I would love to see the South Stand extended and made single tier but that won't be the priority. They will go with whatever maximises revenue and that will be the East.

Can anyone do a mock up on the different expansions? I.e just the east stand, just the south stand, then both and south stand with 1 tier?

The new train station in town cost £26m due to high Steel/Engineering costs so I can see any stadium expansion being way higher than £40-50m!

Yeah, no way it's £40/50m. The plans for the South stand are more than just adding the extra tier. Plus it cost £7m for the upgrades to hospitality in the stadium alone.

Rail is a next level safety requirement and would have likely included significant work during public access as well out of hours possessions.

Scope will be key but it will be a far less complicated undertaking than a railway station.
