Bizarre play-offs situation in the Eredivise 2

Sounds a bit like the scottish league where the league splits part way through the season. So is it saying if Den Haag finish in the top 2 their play off spot drops to a team outside the automatic play off spots before the league split (Den Bosch). But Den Bosch winning would mean that extra place doesn't become avaiable meaning they'd miss out.

So a premier league comparison is if chelsea win the FA Cup we'd prefer them to finish top 6 so the europa league spot drops to 7th. In that scenario it could end up being beneficial for us to lose against chelsea on the last day to make sure they get top 6, opening up an extra Europa League place?

Is that correct?

I don’t see why that would be the case in England. Why would we allow Chelsea to win so they finish 6th so the Europa league drops a place? In that scenario wouldn’t we be better winning the game so we’d finish 6th ourselves?

Now this is why I come to Pure Football, this is great.

I wonder what kooky hijinks those guys down at FC Den Bosch will get up to!!!

One of my favourite leagues is the Eerste. Loads of goals and corners. Unfortunately uk never gives booking odds on it or it’d be even better.
Weird that they have all the U21 teams in it. I’ve been obsessed with Jong Utrecht all season.

I feel like the OP needs to explain the “complex ‘period title’ system” for it to makes sense
A few posts down on the first page marra ;)
Yeah.
Vitesse are 11th and Den Haag are top is what I don’t understand

The Eerste Divisie (Dutch 2nd tier) uses a period title system (periods 1-4) to reward consistent performance, allowing four teams to qualify for the promotion playoffs regardless of their final league standing. Each period lasts roughly 8-9 games, with the best-performing team in that timeframe securing a spot, provided they finish in the top half of the table.

If Bosch don't lose then Vitesse may take over Den Haag in the current period which means Bosch miss out on the play offs...I think

How does this work for their domestic cups then? Assuming you can't have a senior and youth team in the same copetition if they can't play eachother?
Dunno about now but they used to allow the reserve sides into the Dutch Cup on a regular basis a few years back.

Ajax and Ajax reserves both reached the semis one year, and if it hadn't of been for Ajax reserves losing their semi on penalties, the final would have been Ajax v Ajax.
