Whoever that ref was today he was poor for the big decisions. No idea how you can look at that incident in the first half and think it's a penalty before VAR had to overturn it and then Brobbey was a very very lucky boy to be on the pitch after that shove on Romero. ****'s trick what he did there with that push, he knew what it was gonna cause.

I’d agree. I think brobbey was lucky as he gave a nudge but he definitely did it with the intent of pushing him into the keeper. Obviously he wouldn’t have wanted the lad to get injured but he saw the opportunity and took it. Just like we all would have done. And he’s lucky they didn’t book him

Also on the penalty fuck knows what he saw to give it. However he was good at allowing advantage and then bringing it back. Generally he wasn’t all bad. I’ve seen worse refs to be honest than today

I hate the Arrogant Aussie but he gave the Ipswich pen based on his Assistant, still serves the p***k right. However, he's been given the Chelsea - Leeds FA Cup semi final to ref, God help them.

This sums up everything that's wrong with the standards of refereeing in this country. Every time he referees a game he seems to make a howler of a decision, yet he's rewarded with one of the biggest games on the fixture list?
To make it worse, he's not even a homegrown referee, he was cherry picked from abroad as one of the best there is!

VAR has killed refereeing for me. All referees get some decisions wrong, but how can an on field referee maintain authority amongst the players if he's constantly having his decisions overruled? It's led to what i think is an even worse scenario of ref's not wanting to make a decision and instead waiting for VAR to instruct them.

I'd happily see VAR binned off. I know we've benefitted from it at times (play off final being a big one), but i'd much prefer to go back to the old play to the whistle approach where you win some you lose some

Because he refs over here I’d imagine
Perhaps you're right but quoting the facts rather than expressing your imagination would be more helpful 😉. I'll do some research.

EDIT - Jarred Gillett is only selected for VAR duty at the 2026 World Cup. I haven't been able to establish whether the fact that he operates in English football leagues (albeit being an Aussie) precludes him from officiating in England World Cup games.

Because he is registered and licensed by the English FA, so could take charge of games involving Australia.

Dermot Gallagher took charge of an Ireland game whilst affiliated with the English FA, even though he is Irish.
