2-3 yrs time?...

There’s such an imbalance in the league financially that a good solid run such as Villa is having is hard to keep up. Each season there’s a team that makes a solid run for the top 4/5 and then they fade in the ensuing seasons.
I’m no conspiracy theorist but it seems the league and Sky want certain clubs at the top.
Nothing to do with Sky, infact if anything I'd say the opposite, Sky want as much drama as possible

Kind of agree but why then was the late game yesterday ARS V MANC?
Put it in a prime spot for the advertisers is why.
That asswipe announcer we had here yesterday was truly gutted when our 3rd goal went in. He was the first announcer calling for the end of game to be blown that I’ve ever heard.
I just believe that they don’t like middle standing clubs at the top.

agreed. We were never going to be able to bring in that many players all in one summer. Recruitment will hopefully already have plans underway and know which players will be getting replaced this summer. Has kyril got any mates he can bring in 👀…Our bench has looked weak last few months.
Bring on Europe, can’t wait for Friday.

I think our great recruitment has shaved 2 or 3 years off our progress to where we wanted to be, normally you come up, target 17th, just stop up, sell one or two of your better players for bigger money to bring in a few more players to help you progress, the next season aim for lower mid table, sell a couple, then buy a few more, the season after target top 10, season after top 6 and possibly Conference or Europa League too, season after where Villa are at now target Champs league places, a few seasons after that pushing the big clubs for the league and domestic cups and being in the champs league most seasons. We still have a chance of Europe because Chelsea are falling apart and the other clubs around us are not pulling away. The 2 seasons finishing 7th with Reid we never strengthed well when we should have. KLD and the recruitment team won't make that mistake, getting the summer transfer window right again is vital for us to progress further.

...could we be exactly in the position Villa are as a club and have the squad depth they have? I think that was the biggest factor yesterday, their depth and their options off the bench. We went toe to toe with them and nearly came out on top...just that extra bit of quality in the attacking third needed for the first 11 and depth in the squad. We have come a very long way in a very short space of time. Immensely proud of the club and the players what they have achieved so far this season...it could get even better in these last 5 games 🤞onwards and upwards!

Interesting post.

If we continue to be measured in recruitment and keep improving coaching / coaches, avoid selling our best talent unless we can fill their spot like for like, I think we are on to something to be excited about.

The last time I liked a squad this much was probably under Reid, when we started recruiting "big" names we actually went backwards, massive let down.

We have done brilliantly this season, more so last closed season when some of the recruitment was in reality ammazing, not only Xhaka and Roefs, inspired transfer window for us.

I really hope we push on, it would be brilliant for SAFC fans to be part of it.

Squad depth with quality is the key, definitely!
mental to think they paid 2m for McGinn
Good player local and international.

We’re a working progress, give it time, we’ll get there 😉
We can all dream, but realistically those top 4/5 places are rarely going to be troubled year on year.
Same applies to those trying to bridge the gap like villa or the mags, always gets to a point they can't afford to buy, or have to weaken squads for psr, or a few bad buys like the mags knocks em back for a couple of seasons.

Those big ass clubs can make numerous fuckups like man u, yet still have the resources to go again in the next window.

One of the reasons it pisses me off at times we don't put more effort into the cups, as they are the only things we can realistically win as on our day we can beat anyone

Bit of a strange takeaway from that game if you ask me given how our subs got us back into the game while theirs almost sank them.

..also, bit of a strange take how you are taking one game in isolation away from the overall picture. Villa have a much deeper and better squad than us. Isidor has done jack shit for 6 months.

He’s done just as much as the back options they’ve had to Watkins this season
Ok. So we are level or better as a squad right now and you disagree with the thread? Are we already there now as a squad and dont need to catch up as a club to the likes of Villa. Did we have better options on the bench yesterday than Villa?
Assist & goal from 2 of their subs to win the game
...apart from that mate.....

Once thing that stood out to me was how big that Villa team were. They were good footballers, but also massive and quick.

Its impressive the team we have built though, in my lifetime I haven't seen a Sunderland team that has been as physical, quick or skilful as the current lot.
We are also incredibly well organised on and off the ball. Our league position is no accident.
