The big positive today

It was a very good save but it wasn't world class. You don't try and dink the ball over a keeper who's stood up, surely we learnt that when isidor tried it at anfield.

Im still too pissed off at the result to think rationally but us conceeding immediately made diarra not scoring infinitely worse, which obviously isn't his fault

What? Isidor went round the keeper and a defender cleared it off the line? Am I misremembering?

Wilson is great coming off the bench when games are stretched. He just won’t want that role so is unhappy. Shame as he is great at that.
Agreed, begs the question, are we too one-dimensional with Brobbey up front? Everyone knows by now how we play with Brobbey, so could Wilson change his game to give us a bit of something different to his usual game, and maybe ' beef up' his play to add a bit of physical presence to his performance. I like Wilson's style, but I agree he won't stay as 2nd fiddle when he can be main man at another club.

Was a very bizarre game. We couldn't score when we had control of the game earlier on, they picked us off clinically three times.

Second half it was end to end yet no-one scored.

Then just as the game was dying out we managed to create three guilt edged chances, score two and still lose.

Mental game

Good shout very Watson-esque. Unfortunately I believe like Watson a big club will come knocking soon & he’ll be off, hope not though…
He’s just signed a five year deal -so if they do like many other of our star players it will be big money.
The Watson deal looks very good from safc at the moment ( I would have preferred he stayed but that’s football)

So, for me the big positive from today is simple. I am gutted that we didn’t take a big chance to win an away game against a team who are going to qualify for the CL and are already in a European Semi, despite giving them a 2 goal lead with only a few mins left. The fact that it would have put us 6th in the PL after 33 games is just insane. If people can’t see that it’s a massive positive that we’re all gutted not to win that game after the past 10 years that we’ve endured, then I despair. A great performance today, just didn’t quite get what we deserved.

They've probably had similar go against them and we've had our fair share go our way like that today, none more so than 4 weeks ago. It can happen it doesn't have to be some massive fuming drama.

Was a lot to like from us today but also things you can see we need to improve on and it highlighted the attacking quality/squad depth improvements we need more than anything. Watkins/Rogers/Tielemans/McGinn were superb for them.

For me another massive positive was how gutted some of our big ‘stars’ (especially Xhaka, Mukiele, Le Fee and Sadiki) looked after Villa scored. They looked truly devastated. Before today, I thought that our season was going to slide into middle table nothingness, but now I think that the team are absolutely targeting a top 7/8 finish, and are going to try hell for leather to win every game - no beach for us. I can’t wait for the Forest game.

I just think Enzo has to play CM with Xhaka and Sadiki. He tackled, then delivered an instant through ball and then also found Diarra again. I just don’t think Sadiki or Diarra are playmakers. Xhaka is but is quite deep lying. Enzo gets about, and has the pass in him.

Everyone should recall that Villa put 4 past a pretty good Italian side midweek. Without them scoring .
As gutting as the result was,it was still a never say die effort. RLB's substitutions were very effective

I thought we were excellent, but that kind of result is what I expected from us when we got promoted. Play well but get caught out in individual moments when someone’s slightly out of position at the back or we miss a big chance while the other team are clinical.

That’s standard promoted/young team stuff which we haven’t really seen this season because of our exceptional recruitment. We’ve played like a seasoned top level side, but it was always going to happen at some point.
