Luke O'Nien

I don't think Luke gets the credit he deserves.

Was written off when we went into the championship, was written off when we went into the prem.

His intelligence and genuine enjoyment for what he does is what keeps him going. He improves year on year, and I expect he'll continue to improve.

He'll be playing for us until he decides to become a coach at which point id love to keep his energy around the club.

Spot on mate.

He was written off in league one as well.

I was watching him hold his own during the Spurs game thinking it was mad we signed him as an attacking midfielder in League 1 and there he was playing CB behind Granit Xhaka and between Omar Alderete and Nordi Mukiele

Fair fucks to the lad

That is what drives Luke though. He works harder to prove people wrong. His mindset is so crucial for Sunderland behind the scenes as well. I always think Xhaka letting Luke, who wasn't even down to play, do the team talk for the first Newcastle game is testament to how important he is for this club.

I do worry sometimes though that while he looks out for everyone else whether people check in on him. He's very open about his mental health struggles in some interviews. He's ours, we should always protect him.

That is because there are the usual suspects just waiting to post with glee anytime he makes a mistake, or just blame him for anything they can.
Omar has had plenty of aberrations this season but doesn't have his own personal troll team waiting in the wings.

For the record I wouldn't have started him last Sunday, three points later (again) however.
People just don't like to admit they're wrong. It comes down to that.

after 45 minutes.

He's incomparable. Of all of the misery induced by the Insurance broker and salmon pants it's all out shone by what this lad has done for the club. To the extent I've almost forgiven them...

Might not set the standard on the pitch (although he's not doing too bad in the respect) but I'm sure he set's the standard off it. We've had our issues in that regard over the years but I don't see any of that being repeated while he's at the club. Fantastic role model for the younger players and just make's the whole club more relatable imo.

Hugely culpable for 3 of their 4 goals today, IMO.

Just can't be starting games at this level when the likes of Ballard and even Geertruida are on th bench.

Sick of saying it now and whilst the manager will have forgotten more about football than any of us on here combined will ever know, it's frustrating as it's blindly obvious.

Correct. He needs a golden handshake and ushering into an Uber come May.

He's so far off the level. Every single game he costs us a goal or has a 50/50 penalty shout.

You can just feel the glee oozing out of our fans that he had a bad game and we lost.

Weird set of fans. Bad as mags when we lose

He had a bad game against one of the best strikers in the league just like loads of premier league centre backs have over the past few years.

He doesn't get into our first 11 when everyone is fit. Bravo for being buzzing about
