Cov Promotion - A new perspective on an old topic

Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see our first game next season to be away at Coventry.

I also think Doug King might be gilding the Lilly a tad when he says they aren’t going to spend big.

My guess is they’ll spend all they can within their budgetary constraints.

As with all promoted sides it’ll be how they spend it that will determine their fate.

They didn’t seem too nice IIRC when we played them at home. Loads of agro outside, throwing bottles down at our fans during the game. Hopefully they go back to league 2 soon.

I think Southampton will be the 3rd team promoted. I’m sure they along with Ipswich will have learned lessons from last time and make a better go at staying up.
I will admit I have no idea about Ipswich but all the players they bought last time we failed and had to take pay cuts will get that pay increase if they get promoted and most likely fail again.

We got lucky that we didn’t have a load of loan players or already high wage players. I hope the promoted teams can compete but people say the same of Burnley that they might be different this time. Leeds are only 1 set of bad results away from a real relegation fight too.

Not what I said though is it…what I did say is your trajectory in your first season back was similar to ours and you had some of the same tailwinds

I can explain it to you but I can’t understand it for you…
I get what you’re saying about 2nd season syndrome and all that but when you look at our squad with the likes of xhaka, mukiele, alderete, roefs, reinildo, sadiki, le fee, Brobbey etc.. I mean that’s not championship players playing above their station in the first year up on a buzz. That’s champions league quality players who have all gelled and have a great team spirit. I’m sorry to disappoint and I’m sure the law of averages say we will go down again at some point but it sure as hell won’t be next season.

Some of what you say may be true but you seem to be underestimating the toughness that has grown in our side and the growth and PL experience that our young players have gained, plus the RLB bonus , hes learned too . Thats what beat you at Elland Rd .
While any team can falter I'd be much more worried about your own set up . I think its you that have played on nervous energy ( and fair play its got you this far ) and crowd support . Position for position not many of yours would make our fit 11 . Maybe out wide but that will change this window .

I think the three of them would make it a tough league. Southampton and Ipswich we know will spend money.

I suspect Coventry will have learnt from us and Leeds and attack the foreign markets to try and improve their squads. You know they’ll be up for the games against us as well.
I have no idea (hence the question 😃) but will Ipswich not be restricted financially as they spent a shitload on dross last time. Seem to remember that being one of the reasons Burnley couldn’t really spend a lot this season.

I don’t think it’s wise to assume you are miles ahead of them. You’ve had a decent season but the argument could easily be made that you guys
1. were the surprise package
2. Had momentum and the tailwind of a entire city behind you
3. Had a relatively generous opening fixture list
4. Overperformed against key metrics (if you believe in the data scientists that are running the game)

I say all this not to be a twat but just to excercise some caution. We came up under Bielsa and did brilliantly in our first season but soon fell away in 2&3. Of course we bought badly or underinvested at critical times and you seem to have a sensible owner and top DoF

It may not happen (and I actually hope it doesn’t) but 2nd season syndrome is a thing and we should both therefore look to avoid any complacency
Complacency isn’t in the vocabulary of RLB or the players.
And also is we have better players than that Bielsa team.

He'd just burst out laughing

Not sure where the confidence about them comes from. Last season Southampton very nearly beat Derbys record for worst ever team and ipswich spent £100m on players not good enough for the PL.

At least 2 promoted teams will go down next season. The championship is abysmal standard this season
Chris Martin isn’t their manager this time.

I do think it’s good for the PL that a team who’ve not been there for a long time have got promoted. Seeing the same clubs bounce up and down isn’t great for the pyramid.

That’s us, Luton, Coventry, Leeds under Bielsa, Ipswich all getting to the PL for the first time in a long time.

Hopefully Millwall or Boro manage it too.

They have done well and fully deserved their promotion.
By far the best team in this season’s Championship.

But….Lampard is no tactical genius (he pales into insignificance compared to our Reggie) and he will struggle next season….without GOOD new recruits.

I despise Coventry hope they go straight back down.
It would be deliciously ironic, if we could play them last match of the season at the SOL, and the kick off be delayed, to allow the 3,000 visiting fans into the stadium, . . .
and we then proceeded to put half a dozen goals past them, to grab us a European place, while sending them straight back down again, into obscurity.

If only Carlsberg, did bittersweet, last matches of the season.
