Season ticket waiting list

You do realise there will be kids who weren't old enough at the time right?

I bought my daughters first season ticket last year, the amount of midweek games in the Championship at her age it didn't make sense to do so. Does that make her a bandwaggoner?

See how generalising everyone makes zero sense?

The sad thing is, a lot of the people slating these ‘new fans’ seem to derive pleasure from things being shit and then being there.

Rather than accepting that part and parcel of becoming successful is it attracts more fans. Hardly surprising is it

Wouldn’t let it worry you. It’s a fantastic time to support the lads and the increase in demand is a positive thing and very welcome. Hope everyone who wants to get on the bandwagon gets on
You do get the impression that some people on here would prefer 30k in the ground every week so they can tell everybody they have been there In league 1 don’t you

Wonder if the club agree

There’s loads on here that are bitter about us doing well it’s a cesspit at times. Increase in demand has meant you can’t just get any man and his dog a ticket to whichever game they want to go to anymore and you can’t just freely move around the SOL and pick your seat. For me, being there through the league one stuff was difficult but not something I feel I deserve a medal for. You support the side and club through thick and thin.

They are the type of people who will need to broadcast the fact they were there in League 1 constantly.

The 30k or so who were there every week are the hard core support, no doubt about it. But jesus, don't try and make people feel shit about life choices at the time. It was a horrible time to be a Sunderland fan.

It's not even "new fans". I had a season ticket League One.

I just moved to London and was on £16k and then £25k a year on a grad salary with at £800 a month rent and couldn't really afford the £60 a pop train plus SC on top (that I probably wouldn't use), especially as I was doing every away (and worked in tesco on top to afford those).

100% this. Some of those very low league one games at home I genuinely questioned why I was still bothering given how it was and how it affected my mood and weekend. I doubt many who haven’t been through it would understand it but you just keep going and hope one day it gets better again which thankfully it did. Others made different choices and that’s upto them as well.

Aye. When I first left uni I had a 27k salary and getting to every game was a huge financial stretch. Also lived in Leeds which meant the midweek games were either a long drive both ways or expensive trains and not getting back home until 1/2am and back at graft for 8. Wasn’t easy to keep on at the time.

New fans are welcome. The more the better.

Agree and I was there. It was crap but as a fan you put up with it. Obviously in those difficult times you're not going to attract huge numbers. Now we are and that's great. Love seeing the ground full every week.

Are the emails from the club re these tickets due out today?

I messaged them through the ask SAFC tool on the website and they’ve confirmed I’m on the initial list available at 17:00 on Monday.

I haven’t had an email since the email confirmation of joining the list in February

Update my side.

I moved x2 this week (same area, lower down) and was charged £70 for the pleasure. :-(

I rang the club today to complain and they have refunded the £30 (as my discount was removed when I moved). The £40 charge (£20 x 2) stands though, even though the club did nothing here, and the move was all sorted online. They said theres nothing 4hey can do here (and said id be charged another £40 to move again, or even move "back" to where I sat, if I changed my mind)

Anyway they also confirmed the two seats I'd vacated had been shown on the map as available and snaffled up, so the screenshots showing availability must be correct (Id wondered whether the vacated seats from the "movers" weren't showing but the lad in the Ticket Office said the vacated seats have all gone up for grabs, normally the day after you've moved)

Same I was there for the back to back relegations and Jack Ross first season.

My wife had our second child the week after Wembley 2019 and I couldn’t afford the season card given my wife was off for an entire year.

I was only able to take out a new season card when we were promotoed under Alex Neil. I hated not going to the game but I simply couldn’t afford to go while my wife was off and when she returned to work she had to work Saturdays too.

That said, none of us need justify ourselves. There will be plenty of fans who are season card holders this season but can’t renew for next for all sorts of reasons and that’s when the going is good!

Some of the comments on this thread are a joke. We were in grave danger of losing the majority of the 50-50 areas of support to the Saudi lot, it's still in the balance, lets get as many back as possible and have a full ground to boot. There were several threads of 'Shields gone' 'Hetton gone' 'East Durham gone'. We've actually got a chance to be successful and turn the tide. That cannot be done by denying come back fans solely because they didn't attend in league one! Embrace them all, they are part of the future of our club.

Massive myth this, and those sorts of threads are usually either started by wailing fannies who because they see a couple of tops reckon an area is now ‘lost’, or outright WUMs. Not saying there might not be one or two ‘floating’ fans whose family maybe aren’t interested in football therefore they don’t have a specific team drilled into them from birth and they have no choice, but it’s a myth that we lose swathes of kids to them in our dark times. The same was said in the 90s yet our crowds grew massively, just like they’ve grown again in recent years since League One to now. I went to school in a split area and all the kids who supported SAFC continued supporting us and all the kids who supported Newcastle still supported them, regardless of respective fortunes. Those people who have now had kids of their own also support the same team as their dad/family. Each club’s respective shirts will generally be more visible when their team is doing better as opposed to being shite. I’m from a predominantly mag area of Gateshead and it’s noticeable how fewer black and white tops I’ve seen recently. This doesn’t mean or lead me into thinking the area is losing fans to us though, the same people who were mags before will still be now. It’s just the more feeble minded (on both sides) will feel more inclined to wear their colours when their club is doing better.

I do agree with some of your points, but if you're from Gateshead, after 1973, when we won the cup, there were more Sunderland fans there than mags. Now I'd say it's 90% Newcastle. Success changes allegences for kids, that is a fact. The Keegan era certainly had this impact.

It’s a strange take ain’t it, I don’t care as long as money is coming into the club. As long as long time fans ain’t getting priced out or over looked.

Gateshead next door to Newcastle. Surprised there was ever a time when we had more Sunderland fans there.

Either way our support is getting bigger and bigger with the ground sold out every game.

you say Phase 1, have the club said how many ST are on sale in Phase 1. My mate is 1655 in the queue?
