Echo Watch

At the end of the day, the Echo has to try and survive somehow. No problem with Copley, he's just a product of the generation we are in, has to accumulate clicks for his job. Phil Smith does some excellent reporting and I always watch his videos, listen to his podcasts, definitely the most knowledgeable about the club.

I agree with all of that except the first bit: when journalism survives only by being the antithesis of journalism then the jig’s up imo - and Copley and Jones don’t have a gun to their head making them churn out this crap.
No you havent in your patronising way - the whole thread is clickbait to rubbish one of us
You called me sad first, mate. I had a view and I supported it with reason and logic.

We all have to eat, and they are doing it by writing about their club. Probably limited in terms of what they can write, they won't be just given carte blanche to say anything they want. I'm not sure I would call it journalism, closer to reporting, Phil Smith is the journalist at the Echo.

Gone are the days when we had genuine exclusives on the back page courtesy of Argus (Billy Butterfield) Most of us oldies will remember him - the club were shit scared of him iirc

The secondary reporting is certainly less icky and manipulative than the clickbait, although it’s still shallow work.

In terms of the need to eat, we live in a free society with lots of different jobs. If you’re making your money this way then first have a good shower, and then maybe think about doing something else. Okay you trained to be a journalist but face it: you aren’t one.

possibly the most self righteous post I have ever read on here

Why don't you message him on social media with your views?

It's just not a problem, hurts nobody.

A place for us (or just me) to report any bad examples of snidey clickbait, reporting on other people’s journalism, or any other disingenuous or two-bob writing from Copley and Paste et al.

Posting links will just add clicks so not gonna give it the oxygen, but good Echo reporting is also welcome of course.

Today, Copley has a story reporting on two pieces of journalism carried out by someone else (one of them’s even a real journalist):

Miguel Delaney’s story in the Independent about Bayern behind after Brobbey

Teamtalk’s scoop that some clubs might be after Sadiki

If Sunderland news happens anyway, anytime, the Echo will be the first to report on the first to report it.
Anyway, anytime
Surely anywhere, anytime
