Robin Roefs not interested in speculation

We know what the model is so if we can make a decent profit he will be sold. However I do hope though that in this instance the club balance profit with the need to provide stability and appreciate how important he is to the team at the moment and keep him for another year at least. Another year will see him off to Barcas/Real Madrid rather than Chelsea (if we are to believe the press).

I was listening to one of the Ha'way the podcast episodes recently and one of the lads on there made a really good point. There's an acceptance that lads may become subject of interest from top champions league sides, and it's part of the process for the odd sale to happen.

But what the club are seemingly doing exceptionally well at, is creating an atmosphere and experience whereby players might not want to leave so quickly and give up what is clearly a really enjoyable environment to play football. When Geertruida has interest from liverpool in january it was reported he was convinced to stick around by other players in the squad.

So whilst there may be interest from Chelsea, he may be reluctant to jump too soon away from here. It's a huge benefit. In comparison, you have the mags reluctantly having to sell players where the players clearly want to leave. We don't seem to have that problem currently which i great to see.

Every chance that could change if a hard bid is placed mind. But i can't see anyone actively pushing for a move. I think they will have the mindset of "if it happens it happens".

50 million + would not be a stupid offer in my opinion it should be a starting point in today's climate
Kepa went for just over £70m.

There’s been inflation since then, so there’s the starting point. Not like they don’t have the money. They regularly spend £250m+ every season.

Was the same with Jobe, he signed an extension with an understanding we'll let him go when an appropriate offer came in. It's not in anyone's interest to be in a 'Pua Rat' scenario where you have players going on strike because you refuse to acknowledge there's a pecking order. If they're willing to give us an extra year or 2 because they feel happy then it's a win win.

I know Chelsea are seen as a big club, but I reckon he could do better.

There's a reason they're coming in with a big early bid; it's because better teams are going to want him.

Roefs knows this, we know this

Theres a good chance we only finish a few points behind them in our first season back this year

I think there will be a few players who expected more of a struggle, looking round and seeing Xhaka, AFCON winner(s?) and young players getting a chance and building and the club with momentum - going "yeah I could do this for at least another season"

I get that the idea is to make a profit on players, but selling after just one season does seem short term thinking, especially in a position where we'd have to go out and buy a replacement for, which wouldn't be cheap.

Keeping RR for another season gives us time to have a better look at our 2nd choice GK's whilst Roefs value continues to rise.

We're not going to be the surprise package next season. Every team is going to take us very seriously when they meet us again, and we could really do with our best players for that.

Does it not matter what Roefs himself wants to do.
😂😂😂
Just maybe hes happy playing for us and fancies another year / owes us another year.
But no.

Some people cant wait to get rid for some very strange reason.

Money does not always talk
Would you go to Chelsea at the minute ?
Interesting Roefs seems to be saying we are “ building “
Maybe just maybe KLD et al are more ambitious than we as fans appreciate but the players are fully aware ?

And as I said after that I know people will go I would just rather he went to a better option than Chelsea for the lad cos I want to see him go on and do well and play for a top team and top fand not them lot
They are a top club who keep hiring and firing quick fix managers every 5 minutes
Their record in the past 25 years most clearly points to them being a big club
They spend big, they are in a trendy part of London, they pay big salaries
Right now they are in a rut, but will rise out of it

Maybe they will but they are also a club who have no direction and no soul
Without a few players like Palmer, Pedro, Caicedo and Fernandez..... they're pretty much on Bournemouth, Brighton level. Mad when they've spent as much as they have. Hope Palmer goes somewhere else. Looks like he needs a move.
Aye Palmer is lost there now but the whole club are just a mess

Ive read somewhere today that Roefs are going nowhere. He want to stay as long as he can!! He like our project :)

Fantastic news for us all! I hope he is telling the truth lol
No i would not.
Id be staying at Sunderland for 1 more year at least.
But.
Some of our fans seem desperate for us to be selling him
yeah i thought that crazy. Good thing is we have plenty of money, we have notthing to worry.
KLD would have gone by now if he think he cannae afford anymore.
