Jared Gillet

Well that’s the question?

Why is he well thought off or if you like ‘ golden boy’

Why did he go straight to premier league?

Only logic I think off is he was very good previously.

Unless anyone can suggest another logical reason?
Well yes that’s a good question why so well thought of? What did he do in about 6 games in the bottom 2 divisions that was so good he got bumped to the championship? Must have been a great 6 games mustn’t it. Can’t be arsed to check the stats for the other 2

Like I said the whole world doesn’t revolve around Sunderland or Newcastle.

People get selected for other reasons I know that’s hard for you to understand

Ice seen him referee other teams as well. Hes always awful.

I know the world doesnt revolve around sunderlrand but you'd think the decision of who is refereeing at the world cup would revolve around the ability to referee.

A few people in the background getting Aussie passports/citizenships for their troubles?

Yeah and you would think the people who have chosen him, would have a lot more information and a lot more sample size of games to make a more informed decision than you and me on that ability.

Once again that’s just logic, I have not really got an opinion on him whether he good or bad.

But it’s obvious any ref chosen for the tournament has shown lots of ability perplexed how that logic is not obvious to anyone.

It’s basic stuff really.

I could watch a player for a handful games think he bad as he may have performed bad in them handful of games, but people who have his information for 50/100 games know more than my handful a hell of a lot more, it’s that simple really quite easy to understand

If being an absolute tosser and appearing inept at your job are now classed as being a minority, then I applaud FIFA for being inclusive in selecting him.

FFS, it's not his ability as a referee that has seen him go to the World Cup. He's going as a specialist VAR. He would have been nominated at the beginning of the season as our VAR to FIFA. He's very fortunate that he's going at all as there's now a new fella called Paul Howard who is the best VAR in the Premier League by a distance, but he's only rose to prominence this season...

Thats authority bias. You are assuming they have more information than you. They may not, they may have the same information but a different opinion.

Its just an opinion I disagree with. You are acting like its scientific fact and theyre the experts but it isnt. Its potentially looking for a different thing than I think makes a good referee. But good in this instance is an opinion, not a fact.

Yeah refs are picked on subjective data opinion of assessments and that will change from person to person.

It’s just basic logic mate imo.

Any opinion is more informed if you have more information to inform that opinion.

I think it’s the fair to say they will more information than the general bloke on the street

My point is the people making these decisions will have that hence are more informed

Being more informed doesnt mean anything really in this instance. If he'd been decent in some games that would make sense but unless ive managed to see every outlier in his career more information would be unlikely to change my opinion

Don’t get me wrong not saying he good or bad as have not seen him enough to inform a informed opinion as like I said earlier I watch the players not the ref.

However been more informed means a lot more in any instance including this one, of course it does.

The more you see of any person in any job and the bigger sample size you have will always be a massive help determining somebody’s capability.

Logic suggests very strongly all the officials chosen for the World Cup will have been assessed over a decent sample size to be selected

Logic suggests that the people picking the world cup refs have different criteria to me

Am I the only one that thinks he's a decent ref? Can't say hes ever annoyed me too much. Better than most of the shit we get from these shores.

Mind you, some of the officiating I've seen in the Conference League this season makes me think im too harsh on EPL refs, we've had some shockers.
