Harrison Jones To Leave Club

Was always going to be a lot tougher for the young uns to get their chance once we moved into the Prem. Hopefully the experience of playing with top level footballers in training has helped him and I'm sure he will find a club he can get regular games at so he can find his level.
Aye - if we had not gone up I think he would have got a good few games in the Championship. Article says League 1 and League 2 clubs interested but I hope he finds a Championship club.

We will still look to develop young players but they will be players who have already cut their teeth elsewhere. Can’t see academy lads coming through unless they are stellar.

He is just one of those players who has been the victim of the clubs quicker than expected success and there’s no shame in that at all. From what I have seen I think he could definately continue his career in the championship and with the experience and his own physical growth who knows where it might take him. All the best to the lad.

Same with Zak Johnson

Who's going to take a chance on him with barely any senior football to his name apart from some glorified friendlies at the end of last season.
I would imagine "EFL and Scottish Premiership clubs" given the headline in the OPs article?

🤷‍♂️

At a guess, for a Cat 1 academy I'd say pretty low. Fine with keepers though

Tippy Tappy is on its way out and good riddance if you ask me.

Awful boring possession based football.
Bloody hell, you are like a cracked record, and wrong. Yes, teams are mixing football up but all footballers need to be able to pass, receive and maintain possession. Defenders will always have to maintain possession. Man City are the best team at the moment and possession is key for them. Arsenal mix it up but every player, including the keeper, needs to be comfortable in possession. You want our academy teams to not teach defenders how to maintain possession through passing and that is a sure fire way to deny them a career in football. I watched South Shields recently and their defdenders were comofrtable in possession and passing short. Its bizarre how wrong you are. As for producing good youngsters I would suggest that Rigg, Watson and Young is a pretty good haul but now we are in the Premier League the standards are increased.
Less than 1% of elite academy players will make it at the top level, Harrison Jones leaving doesn’t discount the good work being done.
Rigg is years younger and already a fixture in the team as he has the ability others dont
Academies are judged on how may players they progress to the professional game rather than just who plays in the Prem or internationally. We seem to do pretty well.

Agreed. Be less we see make it in the team when we stay at this level. Young and Geragusian seem the ones with the noise around. Be interesting to see if we start buying young players from academies too.

How many professional footballers are we producing?

Look at Spurs as an example we have 2 of theirs in our 1st team squad
We are always going to be at a disadvantage to the likes of spurs though. They probably have a population pool of 10 million plus to pick from, we will be lucky if we have a million. Then have the financial advantage of buying in young uns at 13/14. Part of me absolutely hates this but I honestly think it should be our next step as a club to do it.

Imagine York will be all over trying to get him signed up permanently if/when they win promotion back into the league.

21 year old at a National League club, albeit a very good one seem so most likely L2 quality does bode well possibly for an eventual Championship career, lad was younger than I expected, wish him well but i’ll be shocked to see him make appearances in the PL

Tutierov has gone to L1 and scored and had assists which is pretty impressive and Trey has done the same in L2, at a slightly younger age. They are both very promising but now that we are in the Premier League you need to be very special to get into the first team. As I mentioned above Harrison Jones missed something like two years due to injury which at the age of 17 or 18 is a massive problem in terms of development. I would hope that Geragusian is carefully managed re: loans etc. if he is to be developed onwards. I would also hope he signs with us because just about every youngster that has left for so-called better opportunities has not flourished.

You are going long way back to include Gooch. The football league isn't littered with players from our Academy.

A good Academy produces professional footballers, no only for its first team but to have careers in the game. Certainly something to improve on
We're a lot better than we were 10 years ago. And whatever the reasons for our relative success/failure, playing out from the back is very little to do with it. It's far more attributable to our catchment area being away from the truly big conurbations of the NW, Midlands and London

We don't have a good record of producing defenders tbh. Last centre half we produced of any impact was Dickie Ord nearly 40 years ago

John Egan?

From what i understand, he was looking to go out on loan during the last window but the club blocked the move due to to the amount of players heading off to AFCON. Nothing to do with turning down loan moves due to being comfortable where he is.

Aye but he had to leave to have a career. Think there’s maybe something about always being in a battle either end of the table that maybe prevents us giving young defenders time to acclimatise. Wonder if we’d need a nothing season to see a centre half break through.

Yeah very risky to drop a young lad in like that, risks points and could do untold harm to the player as well
