30,000+ season tickets sold

I don’t think it’s necessarily a cynical thing about attracting high-spending day trippers. That might be true of Man Utd, Liverpool and the big London clubs, but keeping a decent allocation available for general sale is the only way to get new, younger fans involved. Otherwise it becomes a fans closed shop with no opportunity to get new fans on board.

It’s about getting the balance right between rewarding loyalty, and not being too exclusive.
A closed shop like the away ticket set up.

It's also a PL requirement that at least 5% of tickets go on general sale. Hence the 38k cap on season cards

I wonder if there will be any pairs available in the East or West stand, not the concourse.
These waiting list figures would be believable if there was some need to commit to be on it, but it was literally just a case of registering by email, you didn't even have to use a membership number to get on it IIRC. Also consider that many people would be unwilling to sit by themselves if a seat is offered to them (separate to any friends and family who are already ST holders). I dare say there will be enough people in the list actually willing to buy one to fill any gaps that become available, however.

You had to sign into your account to join wait list. So is linked to membership number.

If the product is better moreover interested, same with anything.

Also. Tourists fans, maybe students in the area all want to see prem league teams and elite players.

Same applies to gigs andctgd theatre

40,000 was a helluva gate in the championship.
It was and they’re the proper Sunderland fans. The rest are Premier League fans.
Demand for PL football has soared throughout the country though. Look at all the clubs expanding their grounds etc. The game at the top level is different to what it was last time we were here.
As above mate, they aren’t Sunderland fans then.
The opposition has never been a factor in real supporters’ support of the club.
We’d best keep progressing or they’ll be away again.

The crucial questions is what the split is for those in the first phase (pre-23rd Feb) vs. those afterwards.

With prices going up, people missing direct debit payments, the first season hype being over, and just the general churn there's surely going to be a few knocking about - but not huge amounts obviously...

The club said on their initial email: Should additional season tickets become available, supporters on the waiting list will be contacted in chronological order and provided with an exclusive opportunity to secure their seats.

But it seems it's now a 48 hour priority access window - which suggests it might be a bit of a mad scramble?

We could barely get 40,000 when doing well in the Championship and now we suddenly have 62,000 fans.
Annoys me, that.
You’re making out like 40 k in the championship is a shit crowd.

Bless ya man 😂😂😂😂

I was at Man City v Liverpool Cup QF. Bloke at end of row spent first half taking selfie, family of 4 never moved to see whst was happening on field, doubt any of them could have named both teams - but they'd probably spent a fortune in club shop. This is the future

You've made it very clear what your stance on the premier league is on here lately. The rest of us are actually enjoying seeing the football club do well again.
