Lee Johnson

Without losing to Bolton in such a shocking fashion we might not have been where we are now.

Even losing normally might have meant he kept his job for longer.

We didn’t know it at the time, but it was a cruel to be kind moment.

I just imagined myself sitting in the changing room as one of his players & thinking if I’d buy into him.

Would I fuck.
I think he knew the game was up before the Bolton game. He was reportedly pissed out of his skull at some bar over that way the night before Bolton, GMP were called to see to him as he could barely stand up apparently.

There were rumours in the week before that game that there had been a big fall-out between him and several players.

After Ross and Parkinson, he was a breath of fresh air in the way he actually set the team up to win games. Ultimately he wasn’t going to get us up but he did improve us.

Turns out I’m only one of the few people who quite liked him
I did too, we played some lovely stuff (also some absolute disasters at the back).

Broke the Wembley hoodoo

Some people hated him because he didn't grunt through press conferences though. Speakman got the same stick.

That Bolton result whilst we didn't feel it at time it had to happen
I watched it on the telly with my mates. We had a discussion after about whether he should be sacked & I said no because we’d just had the January transfer window & I thought we’d be better keeping him cos of that.

I mean, I was dead wrong. It took Neil a few games, but he couldn’t have done a better job in hindsight. The belief & resilience we had going into Sheff Wed & Wycombe wouldn’t have been there with Johnson in charge.

If that’s true it’s really sad. In a kind of get a f***ing grip yer fanny type of way.

He was what was needed after the dour duo. Did a decent job, and left us well placed enough for Neil to finish it

In modern language, he gets an “assist” for our promotion in my eyes.
