If we qualify for Europe

We would likely spend less than that anyway. It's just how we operate.
If we get into Europe (big if etc.) we will utilise the squad (I think the conference league would actually be the best outcome as opposed to the Europa, because we can utilise the academy more effectively) and rise or fall on that.

The best way to improve squad depth is by being attractive to good players, being in Europe would help this. It's not squad players we need, it's better first team players, making current first teamers the squad players.

Also, the early rounds of the conference and to a lesser extent, the Europa League, will allow a fair bit of rotation anyway.
Anything but the champions league isn't gonna attract better players.

Would really add to the momentum behind KLD’s ambition for the club. Positive influence on recruitment and a larger squad with all regularly involved. Plus I was 3 last time we played in Europe, so would be canny …

I can’t wait to get back to League 1 so I can stop panicking about not being shit.. I miss Max Power and I could do with replacing my seat for a burger.
I was reading an article the other day and some financial expert was saying that it be bad news for Everton and Newcastle if they qualified for Conference League due to their financial situations, barely any money in that competition even if you win the whole lot as well.
I see it as an opportunity for the whole club, top down to learn and grow into European competition.

I’d love Europe, would need a lot more depth and maybe chances for the academy lads to play in when we need to rotate. We’d need another perfect transfer window too

Wonder how much extra revenue - sponsors, fans, ticketing etc - europe would bring? We'd be more attractive to players as well (including holding onto top players), so might not need to spend quite as much to entice them here.

Conference League is a financially poisoned chalice

It would be perverse of a football fan to say they didn't want their team to be a European competition.

Equally if would be foolish not to recognise the pitfalls, ie to your league performances, of not having a big squad to rotate players. Also not to acknowledge the poor financial returns from the 'lesser ' competitions.

So imho it's not a straightforward decision.

Even if you win it ?
If you won every single game (meaning each group game and each knockout leg, not just the tie) the most you can earn is £17m out of it. Chuck in the fact you’d have to comply with UEFA squad cost rules as well.

Maybe a silly question here, but if we did get into Europe how would the home games work in regards to STH? Would you automatically attend them or would it be like cup games where you need to apply for tickets?

That's just based on prize money though.

Clubs get extra revenue for gate receipts, advertisement and sponsorship etc. it also helps expand our brand.

They'd give you the option to automatically sign up for them.

Would happily state now that the advertisement, sponsorship and prize money wouldn’t bridge the 70% to 85% SCR gap

The more successful you are, the more games you play, the greater your potential income, the more you can strengthen your squad, the more success you can aim for, the more games… It’s a virtuous circle I’d love to be part of.

Not quite true with Conference League tbh
