The only England openers to have performed worse for England in an Ashes series for over 25 years were Burns and Hameed in 2021/22 who were dropped for the 5th test.
Even Stoneman and Carberry outscored him over 5 tests, as did Strauss in 2006/07 when he totally lost form.
He's also cost us plenty in the field.

I like him. Awful Ashes and as thick as a castle wall, but on his day a tremendous player and seems to take cricket semi seriously and himself not seriously at all.

He’s been poor since the India series and the video of him drunk in Noosa means he can count himself fortunate if he’s retained for the first Test of the summer in my eyes. It should certainly be the end of Crawley anyway so it’s probably sensible to retain Duckett instead of having two new openers.
Needs to get his head down, score some runs and maybe learn to leave the odd ball.
