Early leavers and final whistle on Sunday

Stairs at the back of the stands. It takes people ages to exit after the final whisle. A set located at the top of each isle. I"m sure there is loads of local steel fabrication companies that could do the job.

The exiting of the Centre of the East Stand at full time is scandalous. Me and my marra actually asked for our STs to be moved from there before the first Xmas at the SOL. Couldn’t be done apparently but we moved ower to the concourse for the second season where we were out and ower the river in the time it took to get to the exits in the East Stand. The club said the tunnels are to be used as emergency exits when we raised the whole matter as a safety concern.

Years later I mentioned this to a high up at the club and they said the club thought the crowds still hanging around the east stand at the half way line ten mins after everywhere else had cleared were there to watch the players warm down and look down the tunnel ffs! Which summed up the pure smug arrogance of the “we’ve cracked it” era of safc at the time. “We”ll never play in the Championship again” I believe was a quote from BM iirc, apologies if it was someone else.

Our stadium isn’t that bad to get out of in all fairness - there are a lot worse places in the PL. Elland Road is ridiculous to get out of, must have taken us 20 minutes to get out of there the other week. Not many exits from the seats then only one exit from the concourse.

The worst traffic after a game.
All other grounds it's dead easy and fans can be teleported home in 5 mins.

Ill say this again for the umpteenth time.

Leave on 90 mins...home in 40 mins.

Leave on final whistle...home in 1 hour 50 mins.

This isnt a discussion the people from Sunderland want to have.

If all of the people who live outside of Sunderland, who have to deal with the traffic, decided not to go to matches anymore there would be 20k people at the SOL...but atleast they wouldnt leave early.

Stop talking sense man. Let the moaners have a moan...aka the ones who walk to the match, or who stop in the town drinking all night, or the ones without loved ones to get back to, or the ones who have nowt better to do than wait around all night in a traffic jam.. :lol:

The club should appoint an early leaver tsar, get one of the logistic guys from nissan car factory in washington to do it. The NHS once got nissan lads in to sort their efficiency issues out and they cut wait times down loads, only for them to return to their inefficient ways a few weeks later.
 
I (like many others) don’t live In Sunderland, it can utterly horrific to get out of on a match day, along wessington way or through Boldon. Not exaggerating when I say leaving a couple of mins before FT can save me about 45 mins (don’t often drive these days to be fair)

One of the most famous moments of LA Dodgers baseball history is Kirk Gibson's game-winning home run off Dennis Eckersley in Game One of the 1988 World Series at Dodger Stadium in LA. As Gibson's home run ball heads over the wall, you can see a massive line of brake lights from people leaving a fukking WORLD SERIES HOME GAME early.

There will always be early leavers; you just have to accept it.

As such, if they’re really serious about trying to encourage people to stay until the end, they first need to get to the bottom of why folk are leaving.

They need to put in some hard yards here and contact all SC holders and people on the ticket database about this just to establish some facts. Nothing confrontational, just a fact finding mission to see if those who leave early do so all the time or some of the time?

If the former, is it habitual, due to concerns over getting out of the stadium (perhaps if with young children or due to mobility issues), to go to the pub/for food, for transport/traffic reasons, or a combination of the above.

If the latter, is this due to personal circumstances on the day or due to the match situation.

In either scenario, is there anything the clubs could to that would help.

The answer i would suggest, begins and ends with the transport situation, i believe RAWA did a questionnaire on this last year maybe. @Becs if i am wrong, but i suppose, you could ask the above, as you suggest, but also ask supporters groups also.
 
It’ll always happen at every club. Always has. People used to leave Roker early.. mind you as soon as the exit doors were opened other people used to come in for nowt. Then again it’s a lot less when we’re up for it on the pitch and not wading through treacle for the last 30 minutes.

Bless their cotton socks and the traffic congestion but I didn't see them streaming out before Ballard's extra time winner against Coventry.

Traffic is a feeble excuse at best - you go to the match and you know it will take time to get away.
