Liam Livingstone

Absolutely shreds Key and McCullum showing them up for the twats that they are.

Basically confirms it’s a closed shop and if you’re not part of the clique then they’re not interested in you. Explains how losers like Crawley seem to have 20 lives.

Can’t wait to see the back of both of them tbh. Feel bad saying this as a proud Englishman but I’d take a disastrous summer if it meant those two lost their jobs.

They should have been sacked as soon as play finished on the final afternoon in Sydney.

Hard to disagree. Some will say he's just bitter, but the following comments are really worrying even if not that surprising:

"I was just trying to ask for help to get better: what do they see that isn't going right?" said Livingstone. "You'd hit a couple out of the middle of the bat and they'd go 'Great, you found it. Let's go back to the hotel.''"

Livingstone said Key told him he had "100 more important things to do than speak to you".

Given how much "aftercare" Duckett and Brook seemingly received after being caught pissed mid-tour, those 2 incidents above are staggeringly poor management and reinforce beliefs of a closed shop boys club.

Rob Key is well out of his depth and it feels like he just appoints his mates, like Flintoff, to roles rather than it being based on capability. They all seem really lazy and aside from anything cricket related knobheads.

If you are MD of English Cricket and you are dropping someone from a central contract with over 100 caps you should have the decency (or maybe it was his lack of bottle) to have a conversation with him. Proper cowards way out to put it back onto Livingstone to say he should have called. Sums them both up.

You can smell it a mile off what sort of setup it is
Good to see it being called out.
Imagine being a county opener scoring runs and watching someone like Crawley continue to fail and be picked regardless

Sounds like a circus of a set-up. No wonder the players are in the bar all tour when you have a head coach who thinks just having a bit of a hit is all that's needed to improve players.

The England set up has been screaming clique for a long while now. Worse, they seem oblivious to it and how nearly everyone else sees it as that.
Any team like this has an inevitable drop in standards because nothing is said when someone fails. No accountability, no consequences.

Watch the stick to cricket podcast with Harmison from a couple of weeks back.

Harmy does not hold back in the slightest on the current regime - hard not to agree with his views on it tbh.

He didn't, but I heard him on Talksport a few weeks before saying he wouldn't get rid of McCullum so he is blowing with the wind a bit. He has been pretty consistent with his general views on their preparation though.

He was bang on about Mark Wood - How they expected him to deliver in the Ashes having not bowled in about 6 months is unbeleivable - a blind man could see what was going to happen there and they still went with it. negligent is the correct word
