Xhaka not happy with the early leavers

So what was the deal during the playoffs, and in the first half of this season where on almost every game we were under the cosh, had low possession and barely any chances.

I will tell you what, the fans attitude to playing in the Premiership.

We have become deluded and entitled within 30 games.

We are odds on for relegation next season if the Stadium of Light is like that next season. Talk about how the players play all you like if they don’t have confidence and energy to play at the levels they have, when they get the support we are toast.

Every commentator in UK has talked about the SOL having the best atmosphere this season about it being our secret weapon, about how difficult it is for the opposition to play in.

What about all of this do people not understand?
I think you are bang on to be honest. You can actually feel the apathy in the crowd because after a good start people were expecting us to be steam rolling sides like Fulham at home. Now we aren’t, they are getting on the players backs.

It’s unbelievable really when every Sunderland supporter would have snapped your hand off to be where we are before a ball has been kicked.

I can honestly see players like xhaka asking to leave at the end of the season.

this thread. it would have been all over social media if it really happened. to me it seems there's 2 people, possibly 3 on here in a crowd of over 45 thousand saying it's true. it's just a made up story to have a go at the fans.
Don't call me a liar marra. Plenty of us saw it. If it doesn't meet with your idyllic view of the world, then so be it.

i'm calling as i see fit.
i sit in the east stand and saw absolutely nothing and i would've thought there would have been a bit shenanigans from the crowd if it did happen like the diarra incident at port vale last week but as there was nothing i suspect it simply didn't happen.
why is there nothing on other media apart from 2 or 3 on here? it's just all made up bollocks to have a go at those who leave early imo.

I normally stay to the end and wait the twenty minutes for the East Stand to finally empty.

Yesterday I just thought we were garbage and left on 85 mins.

We were that bad I didn’t even watch the last few minutes of normal time on the concourse. I walked straight out.

What did happen with Diarra at Port Vale?

You obviously weren't looking at him. Or maybe you left early.

Say what you like about me but I wouldn't make up something like this. Obviously I wasn't close enough to hear what Xhaka was saying but it clearly looked to me like he was gesturing and pissed off at the early leavers - correctly IMO.

Very well said. For me if the only factor was seeing the performance of the team massively overachieving and confounding the views of everyone who expected the 4th best gteam in the championship to finish bottom I would have had one of my most enjoyable seasons watching the lads. The fans have absolutely taken the edge of it for me. A litle bit at the match but much more so the views of people online. As you say loads have become comlpetely deluded dand entitled. Its caught me by surprise as well - I expected this year to be everyone rowing in the same direction - taking any dsaappointments on the chin and if by any chance we did stay up celebrating it like the great acbievement it is.

Not that I'd leave early but people just know we're not going to do anything. 8 minutes of injury time we had and all we could muster was one shot from Cirkin right at the end of it.

This. Put Alderete up front and then O'nien, Hume and Xhaka passing the ball around at the back. You absolutely knew we weren't going to do anything worthwhile.

I don't disagree with some of that, though we wont be relegated because of the fans. We could be relegated as we can't score goals and are appalling going forward.

Whilst some got carried away and are more expectant (as did the owner with comments of top ten and not doing what the said in January) the football and more so the attitude and physicality of the team has been a bit of a wet blanket second half of the season. We've had Regis and players talk about connections and how players like Hume can engage the crowd-- there's not a lot of engagement going on right now and fans will buy into the team grafting their arses off.

Unfortunately it's been in our psyche for years, it's just not something you see as much at other clubs but it just seems like apathy quickly sets in as soon as the tables turn.

Let's be honest, we have come from a long stint in League One, then last season we finished on 74 points in the Championship. This season we have massively exceeded all expectations - most of us thought we were going down before a ball was kicked, yet that is all forgotten about now and the supporters have slipped back into the old mindset we had during our last stint in the Premier League.

I just think as a fanbase we are incapable of perspective and seeing the bigger picture.
Good points made , I think it is something that needs to be addressed seriously

There’s not many clubs that come into the Premier League and spend £160m.

We started off so well and were excellent when we were missing players due to AFCON.

Tactically I find his ultra-defensive style inhibits the team. When we press high and attack we look good.

I always stay until the end but respect the rights of those who want to leave early to do so. Bit of a pain in the arse having to stand up to let them out but that’s their choice. The number leaving has a pretty direct correlation to how things are on the pitch.

If Xhaka is having a go at the fans as folk seem to be saying then maybe he should start with his colleagues.

This is how I felt after Port Vale. History being rewritten because expectations changed. 40 points on the board after 8 years away and yet the season being framed as a failure because of a shit result against Port Vale.
Thing is there’s definitely a ‘here we go again’ mentality in our fan base and history has proved it to be correct. We are quite self deprecating but it’s typical Sunderland to lose to bottom of League 1 and then have the wheel come off what’s been a brilliant season.

Every time we’ve been anywhere near getting our act together since moving to the SoL, it ultimately turns out to built on sand and very quickly unravels.

I’m already concerned about next season, because we’re not playing well and the points form at the minute is relegation scrap levels. I think it’s fair to assume recent form is more relevant than what we achieved in the first half of the season.

Do you honestly think he's that much of a baby? I get frustrated with the way some of our fans go on myself (too much drink & too little patience), but he'd be searching a long time if he's after a fanbase that consistently gives passionate support, always stays til the end & never shows frustration at subpar performances. I don't think he is though, I think he's a pro who gets wound up in the heat of battle like the rest of us.
