You decide - Thoughts on this....

That's on the batsman and bowler well within his right to run him out. If he was trying to get back into his crease then fair enough, however for whatever reason he's trying to pick up the ball at least a foot out of his crease.

At first I thought the bowler had obstructed the batsman preventing him returning to the crease. However, the view from the side shows that not right and the batsman made no attempt to make his ground, so out, as far as I'm concerned.

We were talking about Richie Benaud on another thread and one of his annoyances was batsmen picking up the ball.

He used to say that it wasn't their job to do that. It is the fielders job and even if the ball fell at the batman's feet, he should just leave it alone.

This is a prime example of what can happen.

I remember Richie talking about this years ago. I never picked the ball up after that - mind I didn't before as well. What the bowler did was not very sporting but what do you expect? It is a international match - expect nothing give nothing.

Genuinely what I expect is the bowler to see cheers mate for picking the ball up and giving me it back, then go back and bowl his next ball.

That’s must have happened thousands and thousands of times, you certainly don’t expect to be run out in that situation when you not trying to gain any advantage at all.

That would have been acceptable 30 or 40 year ago. Such practise is long gone.
Walking in if you nicked off accepted practise, long gone sadly.

Bangladesh have previous for shithousery.

They once appealed for a Timed Out and the umpire gave it. I think that's the first and only time I've witnessed someone being given out thay way.

Not on the batsman to pick the ball up, especially when so far out of the crease. The bowler was trying straight away to reach for the ball. Just get back in your crease. That being said when its a coming together like that you would hope maybe they could recognise that and let it slide. But I dont think it could be classed as a dead ball
