Yes,I'd consider the ball as dead, but that decision is the umpires. But"the spirit of the game" is long deceased.Bad craic simple as that!
The batsman was just about to pick the ball up and give it back to the bowler was not trying to gain any advantage whatsoever.
Surprised at the comments so far tbh
Which is extremely sad! But"the spirit of the game" is long deceased.
Yeh,but batter was naive to say the least.Which is extremely sad!
Not disputing it was the correct decision.
But find it really sad that the batsman went to pick the ball up to only give it back to the bowler, that the bowler rushed to get it first and run him out!
Yeah he was I suppose, just like I say he wasn’t trying to gain any advantage at all.Yeh,but batter was naive to say the least.
I remember Richie talking about this years ago. I never picked the ball up after that - mind I didn't before as well. What the bowler did was not very sporting but what do you expect? It is a international match - expect nothing give nothing. We were talking about Richie Benaud on another thread and one of his annoyances was batsmen picking up the ball.
He used to say that it wasn't their job to do that. It is the fielders job and even if the ball fell at the batman's feet, he should just leave it alone.
This is a prime example of what can happen.
Genuinely what I expect is the bowler to see cheers mate for picking the ball up and giving me it back, then go back and bowl his next ball.I remember Richie talking about this years ago. That would have been acceptable 30 or 40 year ago. Such practise is long gone.Genuinely what I expect is the bowler to see cheers mate for picking the ball up and giving me it back, then go back and bowl his next ball.
That’s must have happened thousands and thousands of times, you certainly don’t expect to be run out in that situation when you not trying to gain any advantage at all.
