Whisky

Decent little tasting session in the Bow Bar in Sapporo. The Glen Cawdor Springbank, Pulteney and Rosebank were all very fine drama. The host, Junya-san, proffered the 5yo Auchentoshan as a joke but it’s probably the best toshan I’ve tried!

Got a nice Dalwhinnie - matured in Oloroso sherry casks - at their distillery last week. Dark with a sharp, sweetish initial taste and a fairly long afterburn.

Old Pulteney is the boy and massively under rated

Not the current core range many would say
Balls to that, it’s a beautiful drink regardless.

I'm working my notice now but I’ve been exporting 90% of Scotland’s whisky into Europe for the last 3 years, I’ve also been importing the casks from Spain and Portugal that are needed to mature whisky over the same period (more come from USA amongst others). A fascinating industry to be involved in.

But a lot of the hype is smoke and mirrors and deliberate talking up of brands and vintages to increase profits. This year production will fall significantly as most of Europe is overstocked, interesting times ahead for Scotland and whisky.

We'll agree to disagree I'm afraid.

The affordable OP aren't a patch on some I've had in the past and I don't mean decades ago or priced stupidly

What is it you do if "you've been exporting 90% of Scotch whisky to Europe" ?

If you don't mind me asking of course

I work for a very large container shipping company. It’s not all I do, but it was by far the biggest part of my customer base.
He drives a f***ing big truck.
Haha they don’t like trucks cos stuff gets nicked!

Whisky is all about individual taste, hence there are so many.

Ardmore 41yo for £350

.
I've packed my better half off to York for the weekend with her sisters, to give me peace to play golf on Saturday and cheer on the lads on Sunday.

I've cracked open a Living Souls 3yo collaboration with Thompson bros.

It says all will be revealed on the inside of the label as it empties. Currently I'm getting a sherried Bowmore or Ledaig, but with my expert taste buds it might be Windowlene. I'll keep you posted.

Quasimodo to play me in the upcoming filum.

Independent Spirits Festival in Leith tomorrow. 57 tables of Indie bottlers :D
Looking forward to it.
I’ve ordered a couple of North Star Obscurities bottlings this week from Aberdeen Whisky which seem incredibly good value. Inevitably, I had to add a more expensive Signatory bottling to get free delivery.
I just got round to opening the North Star 15yo secret Highland from last year (or even the year before). Very nice dram, rumoured to be Clynelish but I'm cetainly not getting that?
