Sometimes the Council does get it right. Its saved the Empire in the early 1960's which is now a huge asset but of course it knocked the old Town Hall down in the 70's.Good point, even if the Empire is only half full that will still be a bigger crowd than the majority of London theatres.
I have noticed before when buying tickets online the seating plan can look like ticket sales have been slow but on the day it appears to be more full than expected.
After the SOL the Empire is arguably Sunderlands next biggest asset in terms of bringing people into the city. I have spoken to people who have travelled from around the UK to attend some shows.
Its a fantastic theatre.

The funny thing is I can remember people having a moan about the Council spending money of the Empire in the 60's but later folk weren't too bothered about the proposal to demolish the Town Hall .
In the case of the town hall the Council got grief because when it was demolished whatever development had been planned to replace it( a hotel I think) fell through. All the Council was left with was a rather embarrassing hole in the ground (the Town Hall had a big basement). The Council were therefore reduced to having to grass over the bottom of the hole and put a bench in it. Landscaping they called it. It remained like that for years and of course during that time the resentment about the loss of the old building grew.
It still a sore point even today but then we have the Empire.
Suddick lad if recall correctly.Len harper saved the empire
Yes, was supposed to be a hotel. Empress? Hole became an impromptu skateboard park with a large dip in the middle.Sometimes the Council does get it right. Its saved the Empire in the early 1960's which is now a huge asset but of course it knocked the old Town Hall down in the 70's.

How much were this drinks?I've been this afternoon, it started just after 2:30pm ended at 4:50pm.
I thought it was excellent, Sheridan's performance was the stand out as expected. Romesh Ranganathan was good, although a little stunted at times.
My wife thought it was just ok, so this may be one to divide opinion. If you get the chance to see it I would heartily recommend you do so.
