Pre season announced

Would’ve preferred Germany or Spain, but still a cracking destination for a pre-season

That could well still happen

2005 = 3 games in USA/Canada + Alkmaar
2012 = 2 games in South Korea + Helsingborgs
2013 = 2 games in Hong Kong + Midtyjlland
2015 = 3 games in USA/Canada + Hannover

I'd be very surprised if we didn't see a one off European game as well and Saturday 8th August looks likely unless the club wanted a home friendly

Maybe I never worded it right. But financially & logistically it’ll see way less of the supporters who’ve attended European preseasons be able to go.

It’s not an issue in that it’s not available to those people who’ve travelled over the last few years, but the club is changing. This is as much a commercial trip as it is pre-season for the players. Aimed at a US audience, not UK based Sunderland supporters.

We’ve seen end of season friendlies kick in over the past few years. It’s the way the games going.
It’s was inevitable given it’s all about revenue now

Well, on the plus side, it will be good to have some decent British opposition before the start of the season to help preparations, and it will help grow a potential supporter base in the States.

On the down side, the customs entry will be a pain, and the internal travel a challenge. The last time we were there it wasn't the flights to the US that knackered the squad, it was the long haul internal flights and coach trips. The squad was exhausted before we started the season.

The squad was also a bit under-prepared because there was no one-site training camp (unlike, say, Portugal). The time clock and the scheduled meant that we missed a couple of weeks of proper pre-season coaching, something that RLB is really keen on.

Hopefully the club will have worked it all out and will cover the bases properly.

Have the club really thought this through? A lot of fans will be torn because they're deeply concerned with what's going on there and now you could also be going to a country who started WW3 and will therefore be at great risk of a terrorist attack.

Nashville 25th July (v Liverpool)
Harrison 30th July (v Dirty Leeds)
Philadelphia August 2nd (v Wrexham)
Shot it doesn’t work for my schedule I might have been able to get to Nashville but those dates don’t work for me…

Plus squeezing in those Conference League qualifiers around this trip.....😂

Can imagine this is orchestrated by David Bruce with a savy business head on to increase our profile over there and hopefully future revenue.

Can see how this will appeal to Yanks, you'll have the superclub that is Liverpool, Leeds with Aaranson, Wrexham who are USA darlings for obvious reasons then ourselves who are the 'Netflix club'. Should attract a lot of new fans hopefully.

Aye. It’s a positive in the fact it shows we’re developing as a club. A negative in the aspect these things aren’t built for our fans or even the players.

Still, it’s the pros & cons of becoming a successful football club. Can’t have it all our own way.
