ID checks for away tickets

The ones who have done the miles and have the (genuine) points deserve first dibs at away tickets. It's the only fair way unfortunately.
yep I agree with that. I mean I’d love to be back to going to a couple of away games a season and there’s maybe an argument for a very small allocation being on general release. I could easily get my hands on tickets through a few people but I absolutely refuse to go that route as I don’t like the fact that people are buying and selling to keep their points high. They do this to be eligible for matches of the likes of the visitors away and I don’t like the thought of contributing to a scenario where a genuine frequent away day traveller with lower points misses out. This is why checks are needed.

whatever away ends you've been in since the 80's is pretty irrelevant really as you've obviously decided to stop going otherwise you'd be able to get a ticket now we're doing well again.
i'm sure i said to you before that it might be a good idea to teach a kid that you need to work at something to get what you want and twisting on like a fanny doesn't work.
I started travelling up (and going to aways) in 2018/19, at least in part to stick two fingers up to the lily-livered clowns who all said they were finished - just when the club was at its lowest ebb. Here we are, nearly 8 years in. I'm on high sixties points wise, because I kept the faith (in part, rediscovered it, to be fair) and kept going to places like Gillingham, Accrington and Cheltenham. And we're on the up. So the lily-livered clowns are back. Well, tough shit, you've lost your place in the queue to those of us who didn't run away when it got tough

obviously not many in the last 3 years.
tbh, i suspect it's you rather than your kid(s) that want to jump on the bandwagon.
Suspect all you want, that’s wrong though.

I have points to get to quite a few, but that means walking out the door and seeing the lad left behind. I find that hard to do, so have missed some I could have attended.
and that my friend is a very good life lesson for them.
What lesson is that? Your chance of going to a match is determined by the correlation to how much demand there was a few years after the time you were born.

Not sure what use that lesson is tbf.

i'm on about 82 i think. i don't do every game. usually because i'm on holiday or away on the bike. midveek aways past say birmingham are difficult as well due to work. missed forest, palace and brighton this season.
started going away regularly in about 1984 when i started working and made money to do so. as sad as it sounds, some of the best memories of my life are at the match.

the lesson is that if you want anything in life you have to work at it, not cry on like a fanny.

And my point stands, he can work all he wants, he won’t get enough points to make a difference.

What lesson is that?

we all had a chance when we were shit. it's tough bananas if you didn't deem us worthy of your time then.
He was too young.

I have points; I’ve been to away games since McMenemy and we were shit then.

Mind, no points system then, just a queue at the ticket office.

i would like to retire now but i'm too young, i don't cry on like a bairn over it. that's life.
in the words of mick jagger you can't always get what you want.
He can’t get want he wants, or even a single league away game because the system needs updating.

If we stay successful, those with 50+ points will have a stranglehold.

Hence why it’s being looked at.

I would argue that someone who has travelled the length and breadth of the country through the divisions is a better fan than your average match goer.

There are fans who have had season tickets since the stadium opened and before. These are better fans than those who come and go.

The ones who have done the miles and have the (genuine) points deserve first dibs at away tickets. It's the only fair way unfortunately.
To be fair I'd disagree there. And it's partly the reason the club stopped using the term "loyalty" points and moved to Black Cat Points. Because simply being in the position to travel the length and breadth of the country doesn't make someone more loyal, or a better fan. Some lads just do it for the piss up and the result is relatively secondary. You could have fans with quite a lot of black cat points who have only had a ticket 3 years. They live at home with their mam, have a job, loads of disposable cash. That doesn't make them a better fan than someone who doesn't go away any more but has had a season ticket for decades and never waivered.

I used to go to loads of away games. Largely stopped (only went to some of the midweek ones, work permitting) when I had a kid. Yes, I could have dragged him the length of the country at 5 years old but he wouldn't have enjoyed it and it would probably have put him off supporting the club entirely. So I gave it up to be a parent. But I took him to his first home game at 3, and he's had a season ticket since 6.

I've only got about 16 points now, but I'm not a worse fan than I used to be. I go to every home game, I recently spent countless hours as part of the supporters trust spending spare time trying to help when fans had issues, I've got my son into following the lads so the club will have another fan for years when I'm dead. Being in a fortunate position to have the time and money to go to the away games on its own doesn't mean you're a better fan. Better than some who rarely go to home games and don't really give a fuck. But in and of itself you're not more of a fan because you're able to go away most weekends

I'm not saying people in my position deserve the away tickets. Not at all. That's rightly done by a system which rewards those who are in a position to go most weeks. But the people doing it aren't better fans. I'm not a better fan than someone equally committed who can't afford to go to every home game either

The system doesn't need updating.
Why should it reward someone who hasn't been to an away game over people who have been to 50 in the last 3 seasons?

That's just the way things are unfortunately. I'll give you an example, if you were a plumber and had been using a supplier for ten years and we're giving them thousands pounds of business a year and because of that loyalty got a 25% discount. Then you found out that a new fella had just started a plumbing business and he was also getting a 25% discount just because he started twisting about it like a fanny. Would you say that was fair?

I kind of get where you are coming from and maybe I've just been lucky that the age my kids started getting season tickets was in L1 so we've had opportunities to build up points. But that's just life and sometimes you have to suck it up.
I can guarantee you though even if we stay in the PL over the next few seasons there will be opportunities to get to aways. But will the interest still be there or will the novelty have worn off for you by then?

Bang on....that's why i've kept off this thread in the main. I find it cringing all this "i'm a better supporter than those who don't/can't go to away games". Same ones constantly. Makes me cringe. I've been to every away game bar Burnley this season...but wouldn't dream of thinking i'm more deserving than any other fan...we are all the same and support the same club. Tedious as fuck this thread man.

I’ve been in many away ends since the 80s

My kids can’t go, because of obsessed people like you.

The system is going to be reviewed and it may do you good to miss a few.
Your kids can’t go because they haven’t accrued enough loyalty points, how much easier can it be explained to you?

Exactly. There's a discussion about who deserves the away tickets which, for me, is rightly those who have gone to the most away games over recent years. But that's totally different from who is the best fans! I get a bit sick of the sniping about different ends of the ground as well "eee they kicked towards the north stand second half, no wonder we lost" as if the south stand is the f***ing yellow wall and not just an area thats a bit louder than the rest but still incredibly tame compared to even what the SWC was 20 years ago. Prefer it when everyone is just getting behind the lads not trying to feel like they're somehow special compared to fellow supporters
