British couple in iran

Youtube is full of people exploring in many shapes and forms and places . Not everyone wants to stay in the town and prop their experience up with having a pop at people on the Internet.
I follow very few but this week I've watched A Canadian going across Afghanistan on a bike
An English bloke in South Korea back packing and a bloke on one of those lie down bikes in Afrcia . Nora ( itchy boots ) is Dutch and rode through Iran twice .
They've jailed them because unlike their people they're wackos who are using travellers as currency when they feel like .
If you think they're spies, what can they find out riding around villages we don't already know ?
Noraly decided against going back through Iran for a third time because she had filmed illegal petrol smugglers and thought she might be arrested, smart girl. She also did Yemen but wasn't allowed to enter with her bike so borrowed one from a local. She did have to have a guide with her at all times.

All part of her story and memories . Centreparcs was fully booked apparently 😁

Why are people saying they won’t visit the US? Aye the ICE stuff is daft but haway man you’ll be absolutely fine ffs
The ICE stuff is terrible but it's not like they are walking around Orlando randomly shooting people or arresting foreigners.

It's probably safer than a few European countries.
Eh?I tried to get in,they rejected my visa application.
I was offered the chance to work in Tehran. Lovely apartment and all. But was told that my family might not get visas and there was no guarantee that I would be let back in if I left the country.

Lovely place or not, stay well away from there imo. Not worth the risk at all - especially with the growing tensions between Iran & USA/NATO.

They applied for and were granted visas for Iran. They fucked up by taking too many fotos and interviewing locals.

I guess it would be largely dependent on what their content contains. You would have to be very stupid to go to Iran and either;

a) Film in and around sensitive military / nuclear sites, and / or

b) Interview people regarding politics with content that could potentially be construed as having the potential to be used as propaganda against the Islamic system.

There isn't any information on English language Iranian news outlets - so difficult to find out exactly what has happened. The only things I can find are stating that they were "cooperating with covert institutions linked to the intelligence services of hostile and Western countries".

If proof of such a connection has been found, then again it's not surprising the sentence they have received. The official line here will be that they are being used as "political pawns". I guess we will never know the truth, as there would never be an admission that they were working with any intelligence services - even if they were.

I think people are avoiding the US because they've lost the plot rather than the threat to life but I'd imagine your odds go up somewhat . How's the death from its own people stats looking against Europe ?

I just find it hard to believe how they'll find anything that's not widely known already and even available as general info on YouTube etc .
Everyone who meets people from other countries asks stuff . More so lesser known areas . I met my first person from Nepal working in crete so you end up asking him loads of questions like you do . Definitely just a bargaining chip

Interesting. What line of work if you don't mind me asking? Feel free to tell me to mind my own business if you think I'm being nosy. Just curious as it's not very common for Europeans to work within Iran.

The middle east have some of the friendliest people on earth according to people who visit. It's the leaders who are the dangerous ones.

As I said above, I don't know the case specifics. But sitting in a tea house or restaurant and talking to a local is a lot different to someone who has collected large amounts of footage of such conversations. I'm not suggesting that is what has happened in this case - I'm just saying that if anyone did that it would be stupid and would give good reason for detainment in a country like Iran.

Also regarding military sites - it doesn't really matter whether the information is known or not. A lot of sensitive sites have clear signage to state there should be no photography. There are literally specific warnings on the Gov.Uk travel advice site that warn against undertaking this kind of activity in Iran - if you decide to ignore it, then you are putting yourself at risk.

The thread is about not going to dangerous countries or countries with travel warnings against them. It’s absurd to mention the US in the same breath man
You think that's the only reason ? You need to read a bit more.
Can you tell us?

Hope all goes well. I hope you haven't been slagging Trump off on here. Take a burner. And leave your laptop at home.
This is what it boils down to tbh, I don’t like trump but yous have let him take over your whole lives. It’s really sad and to try and claim the US is up there with Iran in terms of risk is just mental all because of daft Trumpy

The risk of being denied entry is probably on a par if you have criticised Trump / US on social media. They simply won't allow you in and you will be on the first flight back home. It's not to do with a hatred of Trump. It's fast becoming the reality.
