ID checks for away tickets

I’ve said before no issue with the checks but I just think the club could have approached this in a better way.

Have they really explored and considered different scenarios impacting attendance after buying a ticket (not saying they would agree with them all)

Have they really thought through possible sanctions and could they have been clearer on them.

Have they considered the unintended consequences (elderly, young relatives potentially inside grounds without their immediate family due to them being checked) appreciate for some this isn’t an issue but for some it is concern.

Now they may have done all of this of course but if they have the comms on this has generally been very poor.

I can appreciate they don’t want to tie their hands, it’s an emotive issue and are just developing their approach but in my view they could have dealt with this better than they have.

You’re so desperate to get to an away game you’ll twist anything to try and make a case for a change to the system - should have gone in league 1 mate

I’ll be honest. I was sitting with my lads 20 yards from one of “your” away ends at West Ham and it’s the quietest I’ve ever known it.

The away ends in the championship were way better when the tickets were being passed on to the more passionate fans rather than the old boys turning il themselves every week.

If someone's bought a ticket and for whatever reason the ticket has not been used/scanned, I don't think it's incorrect of the club to not award a loyalty point. There should of course be an option to send the ticket back and get a refund you shouldn't be left with a spare ticket but the precedent of it not being used and no loyalty point awarded is correct. Otherwise, people would claim illness every time and still collect the point.

Not sure what the “even” is for but no, I live north of London. It’s in my personal interest that the club don’t carry out ticket checks as it makes tickets for London matches easily available.

I do however think it’s unfair on young SC holders who want to get to away ghat the struggle. Unlike you who loves to have a pop at fellow fans, I think it should be fair for all.

No. Too late to sell the ticket back. Like most people would, I left the decision as late as possible. Basically made up my mind on Thursday evening (driven more by hotel cancellation than anything else)

I must admit I have thought our away ends have been poorer compared to last season on the whole.

I think, last season we’d won 7 away games at this point.

We haven’t quite hit those high spots this season. We can be a tough watch away from home.

Thing is ID check are surely a short term thing and things will change eventually.
The technology exists out there in the ticketing world (you see if for gigs and events now) to ensure both the ability for people to put tickets for resale, back into the pot when they can't make it last minute, and the ability to ensure only the purchaser uses it.
Its just we (And most other clubs??) don't have that platform in place.

Agree mate as we go with mates so stand together. We are the same but they could still request the non buyer to present themselves

But you can’t then start referring to yourself as an exile as if you’ve been hard done by and expect special treatment for away tickets

You make your choices in life and I have no doubt moving away is the right one for many people and good on them - but one of the negative aspects is that you won’t get to the match (unless you commit to travelling the length of the country every week, like our away support do)

Are you one of the I've been to Wycombe away on a Tuesday night, so I get all the tickets and no one else can have any at all.

The system will be reviewed to stop it being a closed shop. Kids coming of age have no way of building points to any meaningful level.

Someone who has accumulated 30 genuine points deserves a ticket ahead of people deliberately farming points. I still find it hard to comprehend why there are so many people on this board who hold the belief that there is no need for some kind of rules / intervention.

"It's never been an issue in League 1 or the Championship" - obviously - because people were able to acquire tickets for 95% of games and build their points organically. Similarly, there was a bigger risk attached to buying tickets for every game and not attending as there wasn't a guarantee that there would be a buyer for your ticket.

I don't agree with a ballot at all, but have a feeling that's where we are heading. The club have admitted that they are exploring the idea of memberships as well. I expect that next season, we might see some changes to ticketing - with some home tickets held back for people with memberships and possibly a small percentage of away tickets going to a ballot. I know that many other clubs already operate some kind of ballot system.

I honestly believe though that if the club implement a serious policy of clamping down on transfer of tickets with clear and serious punishments - i.e. removal of all points - then the phases will end up being a lot lower and fairer. I appreciate that we will never know the extent of the issue until this happens. But I'm just basing my opinion on the amount of people I know personally who get tickets for games in other people's names.

I know quite a lot of people who build points between family members as well - based on who is able to go. The PL / club seem to treat this the same as someone selling tickets on to strangers on Facebook groups. Cutting all of this out will definitely happen, it's just a case of when, if we manage to stay in the PL for any length of time.
