I took it over a 10 year period. If we are sticking with the last 3 years in which they've finished 2nd and consider the 5 realistic teams that you'd expect to be challenging given their status and spending (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd) then Arsenal have had the 4th (24/25 season), 2nd (23/24 season) and 3rd (22/23 season) highest net spend. Looking at this metric alone you could argue they've overachieved by finishing 2nd rather than their projected 3rd (given their average highest net spend) but this does not consider the other competitions which they are significantly behind the other 4 major competitors.I didn’t say they were measured by winning trophies, I said they were measured by winning the league or the champions league. Arsenal haven’t won any yet, but as you said yourself, they have the 4th net spend, and they’ve finished 2nd 3 years in a row, about to be a 4th time if they fail to win it this year.
That feels like he’s at least delivering on expectations to me. Are you saying he needs to win a league cup or two and that would all of a sudden flip it to overachieving?
"Top sides measure success by winning the PL or Champions League"... Your words not mine. Arsenal are a top side, right? And yet Arteta has failed to deliver on either of these trophies in 7 years. With only 1x FA cup and 2x Community shields to show - how can that be in any way shape or form be considered as overachieving?
Winning a league cup or two may not automatically qualify him for overachieving status but it would certainly help justify your claim.
