I’m not sure many were hailing him as a world beater. I just recall the commonly held view that the longer it took us to get promoted, the more likely it was that someone might come in for him based upon his age and potential. Fck me, that’s not unreasonable when you look at some of the reserve keepers in the Premier League. Jason Steele being the most obvious example.
