Takeaways

Bog standard Chinese is easily the worst even though it’s usually the cheapest. There is a nice pan Asian restaurant in Low Fell we go to and also order from though that is very decent and a class above most Chinese style takeaway food. Not cheap though. Indian is probably pound for pound the best and most consistent, but aye on the whole it’s not far off eating out prices these days.
All the Chinese takeaways round my way have become that salty I’m dehydrated for 3 weeks after. Wake up the next day like you’ve been eating sand.

Got some cracking takeaways round my way. Everything from Eritrean to Lobster. There are some rubbishy ones in there but sometimes cooking for one is annoying and I can't make gyoza or sushi so I order in.
That’s the issue up here, you either have generic pizza/kebab takeaway or copy cat Chinese/indian places. All cater for the tastebuds of a middle aged white family. Lebaneat stood out for me but that moved and the plain shawarma place doubled up on locations.

We don’t have enough immigrants for good takeaway places in Sunderland.

Since COVID the prices have become a joke.

Pardon the pun but it will bite them in the arse , loads of people I know do t order them anymore, as an example a Chinese I orders from for years, pre COVID was around £28 .

EXACT SAME ORDER NOW £47.

Na.
Ordinary Inflation across that period would bring the cost to about 40 quid. Food costs and fuel prices have gone up even more- 38% for food and 45% for fuel so it’s probably not miles out just reflecting the increase in costs. Probably snuck an extra 5-7 quid on to what it should be.

I've stopped altogether
We expect to pay a premium round here because of the location but since Covid it's beyond ridiculous
Paying 20% more than Inverness/Elgin prices
40% more than Glasgow/Edinburgh prices

Central belt prices were always 10-15% more than NE prices anyway

A shame really because we've had a Chinese open in recent times which is almost as good as what we used to get in Shields 20-30 years ago but not prepared to be mugged

The big problem is the delivery companies

Deliveroo and Uber get up to 30% commission for each dish. If you’re in a big city like London, you can’t really get away with being collection-only. Then there’s additional fees on top of that if you want to be a featured business, and of course the huge cost of running a hospitality business in general.

Also, it’s now well documented that a lot of massive corporations like Pizza Hut and TGI Fridays are now masquerading as independent restaurants ( ) to create a false sense of variety

It’s incredibly tough for small businesses, they have all my sympathy
Edit: should mention that delivery company’s commission does not scale with global earnings, so an independent burger place and a Five Guys would be paying the same amount, assuming similar popularity
(and Five Guys probably have a very cushy deal anyway)

If you go on UberEats you will see there is about 24 different takeaways to order from in Park Lane, I am sure 10 of them are Mexican and theyre all the same place. Is the term "ghost takeaway"?

Try to avoid those generic names, make sure they have a Facebook account or website.

In regards to OP
When it comes to takeaways, its about value. Like most things.

I have a friend who is a single parent that is paying 40+ for a maccies at least once a fortnight. They can't really afford it, I feel for people in these scenarios because you find the easy option. So many kids are fussy eaters now too, or they get their own way.

I hate feeling sluggish after a big, shit kebab box.

This.

There are good takeaways and bad takeaways.

Gotta say, after living in the Midlands for many years and London for four years then coming back to the northeast, the quality of takeaways in the northeast is absolutely shite for the most part in comparison with those down south.

I miss UK takeaways. Here in the Mexico City suburbs there's basically nothing takeaway wise but tacos, which are boring and tasteless. You can get Chinese in town but it's nowhere near the quality of the UK versions. Nowhere is in my experience, not even China. (Especially not China actually)

What I'd do for a chippy or kebab. Or evenan Indian. You don't know how lucky you are having all those options on your doorstep.

Probably already know this but do not get fish and chips delivered, absolute crap. For two reasons, proper fish and chips shops don't deliver so the only ones that do are pizza kebab shops which aren't the best to start with and two they are squashed into the paper and not warm by the time they get too you. Shite

Well it's the fault of the population for using apps instead of just ringing the shop.
They're picking everyone's pocket, for what?
Aye never again like
Coxxxxxxyyyy!
Sweating today?

Quite lucky in that we love indians but the only decent Indian near us in washington doesn't do deliveries, so only get them bi weekly now. Latest was about £50 for the 4 of us so not cheap.

Absolutely shite aren’t they when you really think about it when you take into consideration the quality of the food and prices , I think it’s mainly down to laziness as to why people get them , i am one of them .

Just spent £25 (including delivery fee)on a Naan bab there and it was absolutely bang average, as most are tbh.

Waste of money , could have got and made a lot of decent food for that if I’d went shopping instead . I think I’m going on a takeaway ban , that was my first one in 2 weeks tonight believe it or not.

Thoughts
Just do a fakeaway. I can do cracking curries better than the indians , biryani . Chinese curry , fried rice , crispy noodles , chow mein , mexican burritos , fajita , lebanese rice , kofta , jerk chicken , southern fried , homemade burgers par excellence , pizza from scratch , base the lot . Even sushi
Never tops £10 for 4 people
Neither wonder I'm a fat twat 😄
