Geertruida

We're effectively losing a £30m player that would only cost us £17m. We paid a loan fee, so after everything that £5m is only £2.5m.

The only way this really benefits us is if we sign him for the £17m and clock all the profit ourselves.
I think the big benefit will be in a positive relationship with Liverpool, which will potentially unlock other deals going forward. Same as with Chelsea when we allowed them to bring Guiu back.

It's intentional from the club to operate this way as a longer term play. Let's see when it comes back to benefit us.

Well why the fuck would Geertruida agree to sign for us permanently 🤣🤣🤣 don’t be daft. Plus Liverpool are loaning him

It’s frustrating as I really rate him as a player but I’ve never been convinced we were going to sign him. It’s the big risk with loans, they’re not your player until they’re your player
I commented on here after West Ham game that in his position I doubt he would be signing at the end of the season, didn't see this coming but would of been very strange to see him sign the way things were going. Bit like Isidor has been frozen out and will be gone aswell.

What deals has it unlocked so far with Chelsea like?

Any chance we can use that 'good relationship' we were told we had with Chelsea after Guiu went back, to bring in a replacement?

Or are we just bending for the big sides?

Xhaka out for weeks and we just let the most natural replacement we have waltz to Liverpool
Its the Brighton, Brentford strategy that allows us to sign quality players, on the understanding that we dont stand in their way when the big boys come in

It’s an odd one, re-loaning a player in this way. And it’s odder still, given Liverpool’s apparent decision to loan Gomez to Wolves.

They might conveniently forget we ever did them a favour.

I can understand it in certain games.. Burnley at home with Diarra fit I'd find it overly cautious
Me too, but it looks like we’d need Diarra inside. If we pushed Habib wide we’d likely have a similar soft centre to the one we displayed last week. It’s a move away from Reggie’s old 4-3-3 to more of a 4-4-1-1, but that’s what it’s been when Hume has done hybrid too imo.

I’ve never thought he’s signing since we loaned him in the summer. Not sure why, just a feeling

I understand the concept. But do these clubs willingly cancel LOAN players so they can go elsewhere and leave ourselves scraping the barrel on deadline day?

If he doesn't go then he's got the rest of the season to prove he's definitely good enough for Liverpool. Or he doesn't get another game cos his heads elsewhere.
Part of the reason I don't particularly like loans.
