Geertruida

Let's hope we've got that famous planning in place to bring in international quality players covering, centre back, right back and centre midfield.
 

Accepting that this transfer will happen one way or another. The first part is we pay the money to make him ours I assume.

A bit of a curve ball but would you then consider a part ex with Chiesa and cash for Geertruida. Would solve our right wing dilemma. Has a decent pedigree and his workrate is good which we witnessed with that clearance in the last min at Anfield.

Hume’s good form made him pretty much undroppable so Geertruida has had to contend with bit parts here and there covering for injuries, players away at AFCON etc.

In a World Cup year there’s no surprise a player on loan would explore his options and as others have said when Liverpool come calling with a manager the player knows …..

Important to remember KLD’s comments pre-Everton too.

If we come out of January having lost Xhaka for a period of time & Geertruida, whilst not bringing any midfielders in, it doesn’t tally with the “execute the window….top 10 finish”.

Hence we won’t let Geertruida go without a replacement.
 
Let’s face it, he’s not getting in our best XI but is a very good player.
Liverpool need a RB until end of season, plays most games before World Cup
Sad to see but makes sense

He's looked okay defensively, a little unconvincing at times - fine in a back 5, less so in a back 4. He's had little time at right back but hasn't exactly made himself undroppable when he has played there.

I think this is where I am. He’s undoubtedly a player with real value, but that value mainly comes from his ability to perform multiple roles to a solid level. And in some respects the most important role for him to cover (centre half) is the one that he’s ‘weakest’ at. Undoubtedly we’d move Mukiele inside rather than play Geerty if Ballard gets injured.

Will be very hard to replace the lad like for like, and likely expensive to replace him in the round too. Perhaps the answer is to get a more obvious centre half in and then continue to look elsewhere for midfield additions. Poses a bit of an issue in that Reg uses a very small squad, but that’s true either way anyway. Disapponting to lose a lad who has done well and is clearly well thought of in the dressing room, but this is an early taste of what’s to come for this club. Better to have this happen first with our utility player I guess!
 
Not really understanding all the twisting. He's good to have in the squad for his versaitility but he's horrifically slow as a defender I think, hes a cdm all day.

Fair enough its disappointing he didnt play against West Ham but thats only based around Hume having a mare. Hume isnt always that bad when he's slotted in the middle when we are attacking

You need a squad in this league; not just 13 players you rely on. Gertrude would be perfect for this situation.

Very unlikely we bring in quality at this stage of the window imo with it being January.

Thing is it's 1 salary for 3 positions. It's a massive + for the club to have players like that on the books. In theory it should save them a fortune.

That was described as st etienne having the option to make it permanent at the end of the loan. We had an agreed fee. I know it sounds the same but these things can be done differently.
 
Maybe he doesn't want to be here, maybe he doesn't want to be a bit part player, and if that's true then I dont blame him, but let's face it, when everyone is fit, Geertruida isn't starting

This is it. Not saying he’s a bad player cos clearly isn’t but I don’t think he starts when everyone is fit.
