Geertruida

He’s more likely to play for Liverpool than us which is an amazing thing to be saying. Our defence is better than theirs.

We have first refusal though, that's partly why Liverpool are talking to us. I think it'd be incredibly naive not to think Slot has been talking to him for a while, they haven't just thought about it the day before the window closes.

May explain his lack of game time in the last couple of games

Reggie has us sitting merrily on 33 points and 11th in the league. Nee bollock dropped really. I assume had he not dropped this bollock we would've won at West Ham?
You can have 33 points and still make mistakes. We did lose at West Ham, so saying what if is completely irrelevant.

Reggie is brilliant, love the bloke, but he's human and will make many more mistakes. It's ok to say that.

Fair amount of recency bias on show with this. The idea that ‘we’ve been playing hume instead of him all season’ doesn’t track imo. Particularly since Hume has played well the vast majority of the time and has only really underperformed when at left back, up to the WHU game. And even then it was Mayenda who got to play instead of Geerty against West Ham, rather than Trai.

As for him leaving, it would be a big blow but players are always going to want to go to elite clubs from Sunderland if they get the chance. All the reasons why we want the lad (primarily his versatility) are the same for Liverpool. He may not be a nailed on starter at either club but he will play plenty when others are unavailable or off the bench. Hopefully we’re well compensated.

Won't we just buy him at the agreed price and then sell him immediately to Liverpool at double bubble?

Maybe we want the cash for something else we have lined up. No need to shit the bed just yet.

I doubt it will be double, but yeah, pretty much this.

We paid Leipzig a loan fee for the season and then have an option to buy agreed, so they have no say in the deal really.

Geertruida wants Liverpool so he would go through the necessary steps. Him rejecting it would mean he stays with us until the end of the season and Liverpool sign him from Leipzig in the summer.

I’ve a feeling there’s been a fall out, Xhaka was doubtful for West Ham and they had Geertruida playing for the under 21s a few days before

How was it mayenda ? There’s no way he’d play on the wing.

Shame if he goes he’d have probably have been a key player in any other season. Who would have thought we’d have signed two other more than capable players in the same position!
