James Rew

Good Teeth Keith

Central Defender
Admittedly, I don’t watch a lot of county cricket and I’m 100% in the casual category.

Every time I’ve seen this lad play, though… he looks excellent.

How come he’s nowhere near the England team? Have I missed all the times he’s shite?

Because the selectors n coach are useless

They don’t think he scores quickly enough. The fact that he has 11 (?) first class centuries by 21 seems irrelevant.

Was bizarre they picked his 17 year old brother to keep for the Lions in the winter
If you compare his stats to Roots when he got his first England cap Rew has scored more runs, at a better average, with a higher striker rate, more centuries and a better conversion rate.

Probably. But they want someone at 7 to increase the tempo. And he’s arguably a 4/5 where there is no space.

Foakes arguably had the same issue (albeit wasn’t as strong with the bat)
I'd have like to have seen him at 3 but Bethell has the chance to claim that spot now.

As you say he bats 4 for Somerset and game definitely more suited to that. Than what they want from the 7.

But at the same time if we'd had bit more of the Jamie Smith that bats 4 for Surrey we might have not lost the Ashes.

So the argument can be made you don't need an ultra aggressive player at 7.

He was with the Lions in Australia. That’s as near as you get without making the squad. They’ve largely got the batters who made the step up right to be fair. Brook obviously. Smith made a phenomenal start. Bethell is looking better with every match. Would you have promoted him before any of them?

Smith has looked like a bit of a frightened rabbit since he was part of that pig’s ear they made of the last India test so his chance may come soon. But I don’t think you can reasonably argue it’s overdue.

I’d have him at six. Stokes can bat seven.

I think the selectors deserve some brickbats for their idiotic principles, but tbf, this lad is quite close to the team. He has literally been in a test match squad (Zimbabwe 2025).

He’s got even closer - he has actually been on a squad.

Shouldn't just pick someone of 1 score
Some hack on Cricinfo suggesting he gets picked as an opener.

That would be absolutely peak McCullum when you have a Lions opener (McKinney) with a double century this season.

I doubt whether MC Cullum will be even aware of his recent double century but he's been a regular pick for the Lions and "as a top-order batter, his height gives him the ability to hit boundaries" i.e. -in that respect a like for like replacement for Crawley.
James Rew is technically a better batsman imo but doesn't score quick enough for Bazball

Tufnell and Vaughan putting Ben in the mix on Stick to Cricket today.

Cook knocking him down for being Div 2 because he probably knows nowt about him. In fact, he seems to know nowt about county cricket. Despite his shortcomings as a bloke, it's evident that Vaughan is well clued up.

Mkinney wasn't good enough last season

Was Cook in a coma when Ben hit 121 from 129 balls against Nottinghamshire in division 1, in his second county match?

Or any of his other division 1 centuries, or when he was England Under 19 captain for that matter?

Lost respect for Cook with his dreary captaincy and carrying on like a fool when he took a wicket bowling for handshakes in a match we should have won.
