Greek Island Holiday Help

We've booked Rhodes again for October cos we loved it so much last year. Didn't see much of the culture though - it was very much a drink and do naff all type of holiday for us.

Nidri on the shortlist for some time in the next couple of years, possibly 2028 as the Greece trips are covered for now, Kefalonia this year and Skiathos next year
We enjoyed Nidri when we were there a couple of years back.

Mimikos bar is family-run and very popular - drinks are very reasonable and the snacks just keep on coming. You can't miss it as it's on the main street and is always packed with locals and tourists alike.

Did a couple of boat trips - the best one was on the Odysseia which is painted like a traditional Greek ship from ancient times with the all-seeing eye painted on the sides and on the sail. Captain is a real character and the food (a beach barbecue) was excellent.

We also walked up to the waterfall in the hills - it's quite a hike and, because the weather had been particulary hot and dry, it was more like a water-trickle when we got there. It was nice and cool in the small valley where the stream and pools were located, but you do need mosquito spray, even during the day.

Should be Scorchio . Make sure you do a bit exploring 😊

Didn't know it had an old part ,passed through busy bit plenty times
Kaza and Galaxy bars, are the 2 big bars either side of the road as you enter the strip! About turn and across the road you will see a church, keep it on your right hand side as you walk up the hill and you are there! You will pass many a fine establishment wih absolutely no youth about is it is out of their price bracket, just married couples in the main! The view from the roof top of San Georgio restraunt at sunset with the sun disappearing behind the mountain is top drawer! Bastard got to wait till Sep now!
Always liked in-and-around Hersonissos, Crete.
Likewise, good for a day out from Malia, Koutouloufari and Piskopiano have decent restraunts also!

Might gan to Corfu in June. Gives me the chance to go across to Albania, somewhere I haven't been. Seen a nice hotel in Dassia which is an adult only place.

We used to base ourselves in hersonissos and ride out on motorbikes every morning so passed through Malia and watched the odd game . Stop over Chania end these days .

Skiathos is my favourite!
There is a real hardcore of locals and community, and they are so proud of their island and history. Decent mix of busy places and quieter more natural beaches. I'm to the point now where I just love to get down to the beach to read a book, and then throw on a shirt and get into the beach bar for lunch. Town for an evening meal and some Greek music. Boat trips to the islands next door if you want to look about are always fun, safari to the remote end of the island etc.
With it only being quite small you're never far away from a beach taverna, and the bus service is really good. I also really like the fact that when you land you can get a taxi and within 10-15 mins be at your place instead of spending loads of time on transfer.

Been 5 times over the years , seems sad at times going back but love it , travelled plenty over the years so seen plenty of places

I think one of the best things about the island of Skiathos is the efficient water taxi service from the town to various beaches. We always stay in the town and walk down to the harbour on a morning and go on the water taxi to Tsougria island, Kanapitsa, Achladies or Koukanaries, all great beaches with great scenery.
The town is classy with a friendly vibe and loads of eateries/ tavernas.
We ve been 18 times and are there again for 2 weeks in June.We do visit other countries but Skiathos is our place.

If you're only a couple and aren't tied to school holidays I'm not sure it's worth booking in advance.

I love the greek island and went to Crete on a cheapy but good holiday in the July. Booked about a week before went (all holidays below the same), cost about £500 each for a week AI. We went out for 4 meals on an evening, We're not the type who pay for AI and won't move usually.

I'm currently in Lanzarote on my 3rd holiday this winter! Absolutely ridiculous last minute prices. I went to Fuertaventura in November for 4 nights AI, £251 each (from Manchester). Lovely digs with good reviews. The parking, diesel, hotel and night time meal cost about that 😂

Then a couple of weeks later we when to Lanzarote for 4 nights AI, £225 each from Newcastle. Fuck me it's giving it away. I admit we never moved from the digs as it was purely a cheapy which we would never have booked if it hadn't been so cheap.

This holiday cost £350 each mainly because my wife hummed and harred so much we let a couple of very good cheapies slip by. It was the weather she was concerned about but up popped a sunny period and here we again in 22 degrees saving on food and heating again.

We had 3 holidays for £1,650! This semi retirement lark isn't a bad life 😉
