Massive week ahead

I know it’s a bit of a cliche but I think the next 7 days could dictate how our season goes.

If we beat Burnley at home next week it will still be 2 wins in 3. All teams around us, even the top ones, are dropping points. Chelsea lost the other week, Liverpool drew with Burnley, Man Utd drew 3 in a row before last weekend. Mags drew with Wolves. Brentford lost the last match.

6 points out of 9 would be a good return and meant that we had done something neither Man Utd or Liverpool have done in the last few weeks in beating Burnley.

At the same time we have the window where the issue and opportunity are glaringly obvious.

Goalkeeper is sorted. Defence is largely sorted (Unless Hume plays like today regularly and then we need Mukiele there and another CB). Midfield is sorted. Brobbey is currently scoring every game. We could strengthen all of those positions but without major injuries should be ok and we have the spine of a top 10 team IMO. We lack quality on the wings.

Spend any money we have on the wings and another striker in the Brobbey mould. If we get a decent offer for Isidor I’d take it as with PSR and / or if we play the loan market with buy options in the summer like last season we could bring in 2 or 3 that could transform our attack.

Honestly think our season is at a cross roads in the next week. Win against Burnley and bring in 2 wingers and a striker and we would be right in amongst it. Don’t beat Burnley and go into the second half like this and we might keep slipping.

Worst case if Brobbeys goals dry up and we defend like today it will be a long time until May.

I disagree, think we're relatively safe, and anything that happens in the next week is not largely dissimilar to any other.

Eh? With Liverpool losing here it’s highly likely whatever happens tomorrow we go into the last weekend of the transfer window just 3/4 points off 4th with a home game against Burnley.

That’s a massive opportunity. Yes we are safe but also in a pretty much great position to either capitalise on a great first half and challenge for Europe or settle for a lower mid table finish.

We don’t even need to spend massively if we can do what we did last season and sign up comparatively good talent on a second half loan with an option to buy.

It’s a cross roads because the board need to decide whether to stick or twist

RLB got it badly wrong today, but we usually see a reaction in the next game. Burnley will be tricky, but we are good at home and surely he will learn from today.

Too many people have got carried away to mag mates about mind the gap and getting into Europe I reckon.

People having a panic

As I say with Liverpool losing and Chelsea away to Arsenal tomorrow we will likely be in with a chance still of moving 5th or 6th next weekend with a home win against Burnley.

Two decent wingers, even if on loan from the top sides, gives us a great chance of Europe

Can't see it. Don't score enough

I understand the gist, but to suggest we should be gunning for the Champions League is fanciful.

There is no crossroads, there never should be, it's about creating value, and that's a long-term process opposed to stick or twist.
