Wrexham....

The Championship could be a very interesting watch for the rest of the season. Sadly, I think that Coventry will go up (I can't see 2 clubs closing the gap), and I also think that Ipswich will pull clear in the top two. After that, it's anyone's in the play-offs: I'd say that anybody from 16th up has a realistic chance of putting together a good run and hitting the play-offs in form. It's a great league, as anybody from 17th down is currently bang in the relegation mix.
Boro and Ipswich have closed the gap significantly. I think Cov finishing 3rd is distinctly possible.

They are massively in debt, but to be fair to them, a lot of that has gone into building their infrastructure (ground upgrades, training facility, academy etc.). Ryan Reynolds is an extremely smart investor (not just an actor) who has got very wealthy from buying small brands, building them, and then selling them for eye watering sums of money. Wrexham has been classic Reynolds. He bought them cheap, and has invested massively in their infrastructure whilst using his name to market them aggressively. If he can get them into the PL and keep them there for a season, then he will be able to flip the club to an American buyer for (I would imagine) not far short of £1bn.
Then he’ll be able to use his hover boots to fly to the moon and build a house made of Nutella

You think that Sunderland as an established PL side would be worth twice as much as Wrexham as an established PL side? For what reason? At the end of 2024 a US investor tried to buy 40% of Crystal Palace for £400m - that gives an indication of how valuable PL clubs are becoming. As for Wrexham, they are already a huge club in US - for example, for each of the past 2 years, there have been more internet searches (in the US) relating to Wrexham than any of the MLS clubs. They are already selling huge amounts of merchandise in US. And that is before the documentary starts featuring them playing the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, etc..
You're talking absolute nonsense. An investor tried to buy a 40% stake in Crystal Palace for £400m in 2024 you say?

Funny how Woody Johnson bought a 43% stake for £190m in 2025 then.

Less than half the cost you claimed and for more shares :lol:

Are you serious? I thought he was so bad for us, couldn't seem to pass the ball properly and for the most part chased shadows. Probably best well known for running his hands through his hair, constantly.

Hopefully he's developed and improved. Best of luck to the lad, he's done well to earn a career in the Champo.

We'll agree to disagree. I thought there was a player in him, he was only 20 or 21 when we signed him. He wasn't helped expecting to play a role he was unsuited to and iirc didn't he have a couple of serious injuries.

Because of their sponsors/Tv deals they aren’t really a normal championship club.

They are rolling the dice because they know that if they can sneak into the playoffs, it completes the Hollywood story.

This..They are an TV investors dream to a point. However if they do go up and the first season hype starts to Wain the story will come to an end...

Interesting times in the Championship.

In each of the 3 years we were there, two of the promoted teams were clubs who had been relegated within the past two years, had parachute payments and spent money to give promotion a real crack, with the other promoted teams being more of a surprise package (Luton, Ipswich, us).

This season, 3 of the 4 teams to have played in the Prem in the last two years are struggling, the top two have been knocking on the door around the play offs for years and spent decent money trying to bridge the gap and Ipswich in 3rd have spent less time in the top 2 divisions than anyone bar about 4 teams. In past seasons I think we all thought the likes of Leicester, Sheff United and Southampton were no great shakes and poorly run but the parachute payments allowed them to gamble and just outmuscle the rest but looks as though that has come back to bite them. Unique opportunity this season for the likes of Wrexham, Coventry, Boro as well as the likes of Millwall, Preston and Hull to really go for it while the parachute clubs are asleep. It'll be a lot harder next year when West Ham and Wolves are down there.
I’m going to put my neck out & say I think Leicester & Southampton will have a chance of the play offs come May. They’re 6 & 7 points off currently & both have players capable of winning matches.

I also think (hope) this. I would piss myself laughing if it happened. They’ve scraped through a few tight games recently, which admittedly is what prompted teams need to do, but their form has dropped significantly. I now keep an eye on the results hoping they collapse.

Sounds like Woody got a bargain there :lol::lol:

Rules changes means it doesn't matter as much anymore, the new rules largely nullified our careful spending in the championship.

Wrexham had higher revenues than all championship teams outside of a couple of recently relegated team, while they were in league 1. It will have risen again since promotion to the championship.
In their most recent accounts which were up to June 24 income was 26.7 million. In same period Sunderland was 38 million. And all parachute recipients were higher still. However that was when they were in League 2

Accounts to June 25 will shortly be issued and that will let us know what Revenues were as League 1 club and how it compares with Championship clubs. I doubt they will exceed parachute clubs and us but we'll see soon enough

I know one thing however. If owners lose interest they will be knackered because their signings in last couple of years are not likely to have great sell on values.

Meanwhile our side that got promoted through the Championship play-offs cost us less than £10m…

It was reported at the time that the deal valued the club at £440m

Absolutely mental
