Abdul Fatawu - continuing news

Apparently there's an option to extend. BBC site.

Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Bertrand Traore from Ajax
. The Burkina Faso international has signed a one-year contract at Stadium of Light, with the option of a further year.

Yeh that's the option for SAFC to renew it for a further year. Up to now we've paid £2.5m and a year's wages.

If we bring in someone like Fatawu and also Ta Bi then I can see us not taking up the option to extend.

Traore has been great this season, but the club will do what they feel is best in each window.

People are being far far far too flippant about fees like

Oh it’s only 30 million type attitude

I mean come on we are still gonna be ran sensibly

£30m doesn't get you a lot these days though. I think we just have to put our trust in the heirachy to recruit within our budget. They are doing well so far.

I’d say he’s done a decent job rather than been great.

Wouldn’t be going all out to make him permanent if there’s better out there and available.

Just thinking out loud here..

£2.5m/year over a 3-year contract (if we say we’d sign him permanently).. I think he’d be very good value at the equivalent of a £7.5m transfer fee. I can see that being extended if he’s back to full fitness soon enough to show us he’s consistent.

It is a lot of money for Sunderland like..I dont mean trust within the club..just mean just feel have lost some sense of the amount it is

If we spent 30 mill on a player, we absolutely cant afford for it not to work

The problem is that he will be on a decent wage though and the club will probably see better value in investing some of his salary in a younger player who could potentially increase in value.

I suppose it depends on the transfer window, but if we can bring in Ta Bi and Fatawu for example and get rid of Traore and Mundle for roughly the same wages then we would do it.

Football has gone mad though mate and the money is all in the PL. We have quite a few players in our squad now that would command big fees.

We can pay this money if we know we have assets we can shift on to balance the books if need be. The PL is a different world, money wise.
