Granit Xhaka - Our Captain

He has his A license but still needs a pro license. Can only do pro license after retirement as you need to take a year out to coach professionally.
Don't think you need ti have retired. You can do it coaching academy teams etc in a top academy alongside playing.

Show some sense, of course he wouldn't.

Please don't take this as being negative about Granit - he's been absolutely superb, bosses midfield most weeks, excellent leader and captain. We couldn't have got anybody better. A leader and a half. And he's being called the Premier League' signing of the season for good reason. He may, in time, if that's what he wants, develop into a top manager. I hope he does, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

But a manager/head coach is something different to playing and captaining. And being a good player, leader or captain, doesn't necessarily translate to these roles. Especially not straight away. (Could be wrong (?) but I don't think Granit has even got his badges) It's a role that needs to be learnt, and we'd be looking for someone with experience - like RLB.

Well I kinda disagree. Of course, being a good footballer doesn't mean being a great coach.
But Xhaka is not only a great footballer and captain, but he's also extremely intelligent, his nickname is Little Einstein for his passion for science, says the right things every single time, he is very interested in coaching already having A Licence (he needs Pro to manage in the Prem), learned from Arteta and Alonso and he's already our coach on the pitch.

Also I think the young manager type is a modern breath of fresh air (Brighton's manager, Germany's head coach).

I see absolutely no reason why Granit Xhaka won't be a top manager, has absolutely all attributes to get him there.
I would rather have him continuing the work of RLB than an "experienced" manager that could prove to be a new Ten Hag.

You're right that RLB won't become a DOF, he would want to manage a big club at some point and still Xhaka needs his Pro Licence (not that hard to get after already having A Licence for a while).

I hope we can have him 2-3 years as a player and another 2-3 as a manager before starting to work on his statue.😁

good and measured post, and i don’t disagree with a lot if what you said. and i hope Xhaka does go on to manage - there is certainly attributes and potential.

i just don’t envisage the same time frame, from his development, and even more from club’s point of view. the post i was responding to was suggesting he’d be likely to take over if Regis was hit by a bus, and there’s more than one who think he’ll be player manager!

Agree to a degree but it’s his tactical game that is the relative unknown. Hugely important for a coach and not something we necessarily will know until he coaches himself

For what it’s worth I’d be very surprised if the job was vacant tomorrow that he’d get it

After years of shite, it's ingrained into our minds to expect the worst when things are going good. Manager does great, he'll be off, Sadiki, Rooooofs, etc etc do well, they will be off. Maybe they will down the line but talk of January and end of season sales etc .Just maybe with these long 5 year contracts and the desire of the whole club from owner , manager, players to make us great again, they will build on this.

I honestly don't see many of our 1st teamers wanting to leave with the momentum and bond they have created. I know money talks at the end of the day but their value and stock will rise season on season if we continue to build like this. We don't have to have just Xhaka or RLB. You can see the respect between them both how they act and what they have said about each other.

You can see how close he is to children and how attentive he is to them. The mascots, for example. The one he covered with his clothes to keep it warm. It was actually with the arrival of his two daughters that he became more open, happy, and available, and this extended to children in general.

Alongside Rice he’s the best midfielder in the league in my genuinely honest and unbiased opinion. I mean my footballing opinions are generally biased but this one isn’t.

He’d walk into Liverpool, United, Spurs etc teams and would hold his own at City particularly minus Rodri. He’s better than the Argentinian fella at Chelsea too so he would play there as well.

I’m not given to hyperbole, he’s just an outstanding footballer and I’m amazed and delighted that he plays for Sunderland.
