Shay Given MOTD

Organisation employs thick footballer.

Thick footballer uses an offensive term, which wasn’t even applicable to the sentence he used.

Mass outrage

Footballer apolgises

Everyone fees better about themselves. Even more so if footballer has images himself overnight.

It’s the statement people invariably come out with ( obviously all devised by PR people)

“ a better chance to educate myself” will try and become a better version of myself”

Mind he’s a droning awful pundit at the best of times

I am not offended myself

But not sure being thick is a good enough excuse

If you are that thick that you are saying stuff like that live on TV, you probs shouldnt work for the BBC I would suggest!

I dont actually mind Shay Given if I am honest.
I like him as a pundit but that was a terrible thing to say. Probably worst than the phrase pardew used all those years ago and I don’t think he worked for the Beeb again.

I’m amazed and astounded that anyone - even a footballer - could use that term and not appreciate that it was completely inappropriate abs grossly offensive.

However, he has apologised unreservedly and donated his fee to a Holocaust charity - which is a reasonable and appropriate response. (See, for example and comparison, other public figures - and I’m thinking of the MP for Clacton here with his ludicrous attempts to avoid comment and distance himself from far worse behaviour).

He’ll be a contractor to MOTD so there’s no issue of him getting ‘sacked’ but I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to use one of the dozens of other rent a gob ‘experts’ to chat about footy on tele in the future.

Well yeah thats basically a sacking. Probs end up at Talksport

I’d love to see him just double down and own it.

“Aye lads I’ve done some research into the holocaust and Wilfred Nancy’s reign as Celtic manager is definitely worse than that”

Holocaust historic meaning of a sacrifice in which the offering was completely on an .

I don’t like Celtic fans but I must have missed the part where Nancy burned someone alive to the footballing gods to get a result against Motherwell
