Running Thread 2026

You have experience so know what you are doing.
Sorry if I hinted at being patronising. Not my intention, just been down a similar road before.

Booked up for the Middlesbrough Half in March, bit of a rip off like £43.60 don't even get a shirt with it 😬

Looks like it starts quite close to the train station so think I'll just head down and back on the train from Horden.

Nevermind looks like I'm driving, just checked for buses and trains and there's none that would be early enough to get there in time 😅

How shit is running on a treadmill like! Third day in a row and I’m ready to pack in running 😢
The worst! Done 11k on Monday and it was horrific. Forgot my earphones too 🤦🏻 the sweat that pours out of me on a treadmill is insane.

Managed to get to Harriet’s session tonight. On grass. Took it easy but just loved being back out and running. Chest was tight but pretty much fine. All roads lead to Elche now 💪🏼

Just done a session again this morning mate. 16 x 1 min on/off. By the time I was done my shoes were squelching! Hahahaha. Elche Marathon?

Yeah done 7.5k last night and it was starting to get very slippy. Wake up this morning looking forward to a long run and it looks like I’m hammering the treadmill later 😢 all local park runs cancelled understandably, which was going to incorporate into my long run

I have been retired so long now that I had forgotten how difficult it was to fit in regular exercise (mainly running for me) with work and family life.
Hats off to all who still manage to do it in such circumstances and particularly this time of year.

Big year for me last year, would like to achieve at least some of the following in 2026

50k+ Ultra
A 100km week
2000km for the year (1658km in 2025)
The Goggins 4x4x48 challenge

Currently booked up for the Windermere Marathon in June, waiting to hear if I get a spot for Valencia Marathon in December.....if not I'll try Athens Marathon in November when the entries open. As always I will be doing the Sunderland 10k and might enter the Middlesbrough half too.

All the best for 2026 RTG Runners
First target of 2026 achieved, smidge over 51k done this morning in the snow 😙

Calves were starting to twinge the last few kilometres but managed to hang on. Was more focussed on getting the distance done rather than a time so was pleased to tick off the 50k in just under 5 hours.

Shower, tub of Ben and Jerry's and a few ciders later on tonight 😅

I’m having a clear out of my ridiculous shoe rotation (up to 8 pairs now). Could be handy to somebody in here:

Size uk 11 Topo Spectre 2. Done about 400km in them and they’re a fantastic, Altra style easy run shoe. Cost about £130 brand new.

Size 11 uk ASICS Magic Speed 4. About 250km done in these. Carbon plated and rigid. Not the best speed shoe but certainly a good intro to carbon plated type shoe. I’ve upgraded to the Metaspeed which is a superior shoe but doesn’t downplay how reliable the Magic Speed is.

Loads of life left in both, just saves somebody a lot of money to try something out. They’re not perfect and defo have signs of wear but both have a few hundred kms left in them.

Cheers, I'm waiting in dread for some cramp to hit 😬

Was sound around the sea front today. We got 15 miles in but was a complicated old route. Saw plenty of bigs groups out which was great to see. Walked around Herrington this afternoon and the ice was unbelievable.

Just done 13k on treadmill. Absolutely soaking. Forgot my watch to check HR, then went to stop my run to take a photo as I’m recording everything for my Elche HM in March and accidentally pressed the fkin emergency stop don’t cleared the fkin screen 😂

HATE the treadmill.

Fair play for managing 13km on it. I'd go crazy doing that on one. Can barely manage a 5km on them.

Looked fresh for those doing xc relays at Birtley today 🥶
