Running Thread 2026

Yeah seems an unnecessary gripe haha, most people can't even run 4 mile never mind on top of a marathon.

Maybes we need new terms for the longer distances, 50k can be Ultra, 50 miles can be the Deluxe and 100k can be the Archiesdad 😅
100M would be mine, I was trying to be nice suggesting the 100k!! It's became trendy to say I'm doing an ultra when many are short, sanitised, marked and dull. Each to their own though I'm not criticising on a personal level, just... a gripe!

I’d love to smash Archiesdad but I just don’t think I’ve got the stamina 😢

It's not a race I'm doing it's my own route, even it you consider it 'trendy' 50k is still a hell of a distance and something that over 99% of the world will never do. Obviously you must have done way longer runs but don't think it's owt to get fussed about what labels people are putting on certain distances.

Query - me & my younger brother applied for the ballot but the receipt includes a potential charge for the 10k - what's that all about?

Once again my 2025 running goals were missed.

I made some big goals last year but setting out for some reasonable ones this year.

Increase the effort in the gym.

Get out and run at least 60 miles a month.

10k - Sub 42 mins
Half - Sub 1:42 mins
Marathon - See how the training goes.

Didn't really put on weight last year but certainly didn't lose any.

Aiming for a 30lb loss by August.

Most races have such wide cut offs finishing this kind of distance is more about desire and an ability to move and eat than out and out fitness imo.
Tbh mate I done 60k in under 6hours at one of those Saturn runs in 2025 and I was absolutely out on my feet at the end. Forcing squares bars down my neck whilst running is a lot more difficult than it seemed in theory.

Credit to anyone doing further than that, but I’m classing that as an Ultra 😂

Finally got a second run in for the year but on the treadmill for what felt like the longest hour of my life. Absolutely hate the treadmill

Chest still not perfect but just nice to finally stretch the legs.

I did a similar thing a few years ago, a 6hr race around a park in Chorley. Managed just under 45 miles, was very flat and a bit dull but was practicing for a 24hr track race so it was a decent effort. Eating seems simple but it's really not. Very easy to get GI issues.

Promised myself I wasn’t going to, hate Brendan and his thieving ways, but I’ve entered the ballot (again) and have added the 10k on top to hopefully “earn” my spot. 🤦🏻

Don't know you so don't know how ambitious that is for you, but no matter well done for having goals. Just needs a bit of willpower and you will get there. Maybe have a look at a training programme in line with your targets and adapt it to suit you.

I heard a lot of people , including myself the last 2 years get a place because we were willing to do the 10k
Odd - when I got a response I got told it had no bearing on the ballot before I cancelled it. Sorted it now like, seemed silly to pay the extra 40 quid - time will tell!

I know 5 people that put it for both that got in, it shouldn't but it seemed more then a coincidence

Yeah a lad from my work done the 10k last year and got in the GNR as well, when I got in years ago I bought the medal engraving and little extras too. All about making money now so I wouldn't be surprised if they favour people who purchase the add ons.

My PBs for both are 44:47 and 1:47.

However, both were in 2023.

Most recent 10k was 51:42

Most recent half was the GNR at 1:54.

Put weight on in 2024 and never recovered from it last year.
